@NakedKeynes@JesusFerna7026 Nothing- just highlighting the shared intellectual fabric of those on the left-hand line. Do you have any sense to what extent Sraffa/Leontief analysis have/haven’t brought clarity to the political economic topics of the left-hand line?
There's a common misconception that Brutalist buildings were unpainted, but thanks to microscopic analysis of the exteriors we can now recreate what they looked like in their prime.
UCSD's Jim Hamilton, who literally wrote the book on time series econometrics, built a monetary policy research agenda by talking to the folks on the New York Fed's Open Market Operations desk-- the people who actually do monetary policy
The secret is that there are no secrets

@MelvGAdams I think for me, what’s so frustrating, is that there’s already so much protectionism in the auto space that the true personal economic gains are hidden. A new model BYD is <$15,000, which on the surface looks comparable to a $40,000 Tesla 3: https://t.co/6c1hUY3k09.
@jondr44@ben_golub Not really…
The federal reserve has a small group working on macro/applied macro. Some small fraction of macro oriented think tanks and profs also make occasional use of predocs.
I would estimate.
Applied micro: 80%
Applied macro: 17%
Theory & metrics: 3%
@AnyaSamek I agree as a recent undergrad. Also, because so many rec letters are flying around it lowers their value as a signal. Some profs who don’t know you can write glowing reviews. Some profs who know you well can phone it in. The end result is a weak signal and a waste of time.
@phoxie58@EconTalker One concern I have with not-assuming additive utilities is that for any problem it gives too much weight to priors.
A paper “Ethics and Market Design -Shengwu Li “ does a good job with this.
Russ, I think is excessively critical of using dollar values to aggregate utility.
