Society as a Performance Cage:

The transition from human socialisation to animalistic survival is a direct result of structural failures within modern institutions.

In a hyper-connected world, individuals are constantly surveilled and evaluated. This creates an environment where pausing to rest equates to falling behind, forcing a state of perpetual momentum. Social structures treat human beings as capital or commodities. When worth is tied entirely to productivity, the emotional and psychological needs of the individual are systematically discarded.

1. Systemic Dehumanization and the Politics of Instinct: When structural pressures become absolute, the system triggers a regression in human behavior, shifting from conscious living to raw instinct.

2. The Politics of Instinct: By reducing human life to basic survival instincts; fight, flight, freeze, or fawn; the ruling structures neutralize political resistance. A population consumed by immediate survival lacks the collective energy to challenge the status quo.

‘Don't you close your eyes, Don't you fear the light, All night’ —this captures the exhaustion of a system that never sleeps, reminiscent of a system, where letting your guard down means elimination.

‘Eat this life 'til your heart is full, If you want, you can have it all’ —Hyper-capitalism functions on a scarcity mindset. It tells us we must “consume or be consumed,” aggressively competing for resources.

RM points out that beneath this artificial floor ‘six feet down in the sand,’ wild things are actively digging holes to bypass the system entirely. Seeking “beauty outside control” is a political act. It is a direct rebellion against the corporate panopticon, asserting that true human value exists only where the system cannot reach.

Just as the Tributes must perform, look appealing, and secure sponsors while fighting for their lives, modern individuals must curate their digital personas and “personal brands” while struggling financially. Survival is televised, monetized, and judged.

Society strips away human dignity but rewards the ‘beast-like’ work ethic. The phrase ‘working like an animal’ becomes normalized, framing self-destruction as a corporate virtue.
