I have come to the conclusion that, as a Peter Obi supporter, I cannot agree with a Tinubu supporter - and they cannot agree with me either. 😏

Our ideologies are fundamentally different. 🫩

I won’t lie to win elections.

I won’t support ballot-box snatching.

I believe in the rule of law.

I believe a leader should be honest, compassionate and empathetic.

I want a leader who invests in healthcare, education and infrastructure, while also recognizing the importance of saving for the future.

I admire a man who, rather than stealing or borrowing recklessly, chose prudence and savings.

I hate godfatherism.

I cannot stand a leader who believes winning justifies every means.

I would never knowingly support a man with serious criminal controversies hanging over his record.

I would not be comfortable supporting a man whose background cannot be transparently verified.

I appreciate a leader who knows he doesn’t know everything and is willing to learn from others.

I love a leader who knows his numbers and bases decisions on facts.

So you see, our ideologies are very different.

This your propaganda reads like a PR brochure stitched together with vibes and football banter. Unfortunately, Nigeria is not governed by vibes. Let’s fact-check the propaganda.

1) “Shell $20bn, ExxonMobil $1.5bn, Seplat, Geregu…”
You’re deliberately misleading people. Shell and ExxonMobil are not bringing new $20bn or $1.5bn investments into Nigeria in January. What actually happened is asset divestment, foreign oil majors selling off onshore assets and exiting risky terrain due to insecurity, theft, and regulatory uncertainty. That is capital leaving, not confidence returning. Dressing divestment up as “deals” is intellectual dishonesty.

2) “Trade deal with Türkiye”
Signing MOUs and announcing trade intentions is not the same as economic impact. Nigeria signs bilateral agreements every year. Show us concrete inflows, factories built, or jobs created from this Türkiye trip. Diplomacy without measurable outcomes is just photo-ops and communiqués.

3) “IMF listed Nigeria among top 10 contributors to global GDP”
This is flat-out false. The IMF’s GDP contribution rankings are dominated by the US, China, India, Japan, Germany, etc. Nigeria is nowhere near top 10 in global GDP contribution. If you’re going to cite IMF, at least don’t invent tables in your head. The IMF’s real position on Nigeria is that the economy faces severe inflationary pressure, FX instability, high debt servicing costs, and deep poverty levels.

4) “Inflation is closing in on single digit”
This one is pure fantasy. Nigeria’s inflation is not “closing in on single digit”- it has been hovering in the high 20s to 30% range recently. Food inflation is even worse. Nigerians are not buying rice and garri with PowerPoint slides. If inflation were approaching single digit, markets, households, and wages would feel it. They don’t. People are skipping meals.

5) “Foreign reserves $46bn, best in almost a decade”
Gross reserves mean little when the naira is still structurally weak, FX backlogs persist, and importers struggle to access dollars. Reserves can rise while ordinary citizens get poorer. Ask SMEs closing shop because they can’t price goods or import raw materials.

6) “The Economist says reforms are showing results”
The Economist acknowledges that some reforms are necessary. It also consistently points out the painful social costs, rising poverty, and risk of social instability if reforms are not matched with safety nets, productivity growth, and governance reforms. Cherry-picking foreign media optimism while ignoring the suffering on the ground is elite gaslighting.

7) “Naira had its best month against the dollar”
Best month after one of its worst collapses in history is not an achievement; it’s a technical rebound from disaster. If someone falls from the 10th floor and later manages to stand up, you don’t start clapping that they’re now “making progress toward Olympic gold.”

8) “Economy is expanding before our eyes”
If the economy is expanding, why are:
transport fares up?
food prices up?
rent up?
electricity unreliable?
factories shutting down?
unemployment and underemployment still brutal?

Macroeconomic charts don’t feed families. Real economies are measured by living standards, not press releases.

9) “Nigeria is on the go… that’s why reforms can’t be reversed”
This is the problem with your mindset: blind loyalty to policy without accountability. Nobody serious says reforms should be reversed; people are saying reforms without planning, cushioning, sequencing, or institutional capacity are cruel, reckless, and destabilising. A reform that breaks the back of the poor while protecting political elites is not reform, it’s punishment.

10) Personal attacks on Peter Obi and ‘importation business’
When you lose the argument, you attack the person. Classic. Whether Obi trades toothpicks or imports paper clips is irrelevant. The question is:
Are Nigerians safer?
Are they eating better?
Are children in school?
Is electricity stable?
