@icy_pete @AntarcticGlacie Absolutely, I think the discourse (on my socials anyway) is far more against - but as you say, that’s not the ‘sexy’ solution and won’t sell the click bait. While 99% of scientists believe in climate change, the media will always find the 1% that don’t (example made in seminar)
@AntarcticGlacie @icy_pete My only hope with public funding would be that it was quite transparent at least, rather than a private funder with their own agendas / ideas
@AntarcticGlacie @icy_pete Yeah I would agree and think there’d be buy in for something like that. I’ve no idea, I think they usually go on YouTube a couple of weeks after the seminar itself
@AntarcticGlacie @icy_pete I think the specific answer to this question @icy_pete poses is key for how the ‘community’ moves forward with this dialogue & whether we need to get into papers and get bogged down. It seems the ‘pro’ argument will say back that no has really disproved the theory in papers etc
@AntarcticGlacie @icy_pete I still don’t think I’ve come to answer if I’m honest, but I’m leaning more towards the second train of thought due to the amount of traction a lot of these ideas have had in recent months and we don’t know what private funding opportunities will come about

And just like that another IGS British Branch draws to a close. Alongside the meeting being the 50th anniversary, Doug was presented the Seligman Crystal by Adrian. A terrific few days in Liverpool and we’re already excited for next year #IGSBB2024
I've met so many amazing colleagues and made so many friends in glaciology, it's going to be tough leaving all of it behind but I'm being positive about all my memories and experiences
Mixed emotions writing this, but after 5 years I'll be leaving @LivUni & starting a new adventure with @JacobsConnects next month. While it's been a really tough decision leaving academia, I am extremely excited about this new opportunity to try something different!
