Make sure every child experiences some level of success early on. Success builds confidence. We have some students with little or no confidence and they become disengaged and even demoralized.
“All students should be able to see themselves represented in the content and in the people around them, and should be able to engage in meaningful work that’s relevant to their aspirations, their communities and their humanity.” @educationweek
One of my definitions of a “professional” is someone who gets after it even when they’re not really feeling the passion.
Cause there’s gonna be days that we’re not “feelin’ it”... but we still gotta get after it.
Teaching in the virtual setting looks a bit different. But the art is the same:
Identify where kids are, where they need to go, and how to get them there... and look for opportunities to form personal connections because that motivates students & maximizes instructional impact.
#ThoughtForTheDay Identify one student that is struggling & then commit to being a part of their success story this school year. At the end of the year when you look back you will realize they took a struggling educator in and became part of your success story. #Culturize
Try to take some time this weekend to care for yourself. Let’s be honest—you can prep every waking minute, all weekend, and not get everything done on your to-do list. Teaching is a giving profession...part of your “prep” should be to refill your heart, mind, and soul. #atplc
My kids were just talking about one of their favorite teachers. As they recalled: “It was obvious she wanted to be there.” & “It was obvious she liked us.” & “She always played music when we came in the room.”
Your students will remember you.
What will they remember?
Most great teachers didn’t start out that way. But...
1) They reflected on what worked and what didn’t.
2) They learned from their colleagues.
3) They always kept their focus on the students.
The legacy of a great teacher is not built in their lesson plan book… but in their conversations with students. The lessons are important… but the relationships are essential.

Everyone is trying to figure this out. No one has the right answers. Be patient and believe that everyone has good intentions.

#ThoughtForTheDay Quantatative assessments should be used to measure our results. I just think there is also value in qualitative data, knowing we can’t always measure it but we can see it & feel it. Seeing the joy & smile on a child’s face should count for something. #Culturize
Farrell Falcons had great house meetings this morning. They talked about how they could earn points for their house and chose items to represent their house. Way to go Falcons! #KidsDeserveIt @2theTopAISD
