🌆 South East Queensland is now officially a City Region of 4,000,000 people based on Estimated Residential Population (ERP), ABS 2023. The last twelve months saw our largest and fastest growth period over the previous ten-years.
We go further together when we have a collective vision, shared optimism and momentum. Looking forward to 2024 with confidence and opportunity, as we continue to transform South East Queensland.
A year defined by regional unity and international cooperation, one that deserved meaningful collaboration and partnership to deliver strategic outcomes for our City Region.
Today we held the fourth Pacific Leaders Policy Exchange 🇦🇺🇨🇦 in collaboration with our Sister-Region @MetroVancouver Vancouver, to discuss common urban planning issues to help meet shared housing and urban planning challenges. 🏘️🏫🏗️🏢
Targeted discussions begin to formalise Sister-Region Partnership between South East Queensland and sustainability powerhouse @MetroVancouver, aimed at strengthening economic ties and exchanging international best practice.
What could Auckland learn from its sister city Brisbane?
Mayor Wayne Brown took a look at our sister city approach in Brisbane during the Asia Pacific Cities Summit (APCS) & Mayors' Forum last week.
He says Brisbane is one of the regions most like us in terms of population, demographics, infrastructure and budget pressures.
"We agreed there are gains to be made through our partnership in IT procurement and other business issues including learning from their experience in obtaining a City Deal."
The event theme this year was 'Shaping Cities for our Future'.
The APCS & Mayors' Forum is the largest and most diverse gathering of mayors in the Asia Pacific region. The event brings together city thinkers, makers and innovators to propel urban capability and best practices while connecting government and business to each other.
This year also marked the 35th anniversary of the Auckland-Brisbane sister city relationship.
