@MBTYuGiOh Turtles, why aren't turtles their own archetype? Frogs get to be, penguins too. You'd think with how many turtles there are without having an archetype, Konami would finally give them an archetype (even if it isn't just generic "turtle" but it should be).
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl My friend was on a precon, the rest of the pod was high power. So what I described is what is being discussed by your own admission right here.
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl I do understand the topic and there is a lot of bitching on all sides about who should play with who and with what and how things should be balanced. Then there is my friend who just wanted to play cards with people.
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl He did play a precon, he just wanted to play, and 3 different decks of equally high power were balancing each other out each game so he could develop his board.
Also, him being new, player skill difference was always going to put him at a heavy disadvantage.
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl As for the relevance, you said new players don't play against high power. My friend was a new player and played against high power. Seems about as relevant as possible in disproving your claim.
@justjustinbruh@MagicNewGirl Eh, I'll just say pubstompers, which would cover a combination of both problematic (from gameplay specifically) and just want to win. I like winning, but also ask about power levels first and try to match as best as possible.
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl with us know he was new and may not know the rules well, and everyone was fine with things. We did this several times until he got a new D&D session on the same day as our EDH sessions. 2/x
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl As for gaining a group from playing at a place regular, also not always true. The closest place I can play EDH is a gaming cafe that is always packed. I've been to it with decent regularity and have yet to face the same person multiple times because pods fill so fast.
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl A ton of people don't have play groups and go to their LGS for pickup games. What you experience is not a universal constant and everyone else's experience as well.
@justjustinbruh@MagicNewGirl That still just kicks the problem down the line. Get rid of Consult Oracle and the next best thing is what problematic players play.
Side note: I think Oracle should be banned too, but not as an alternative to pre-game discussion, but because it just isn't healthy.
@JumaoSp@MagicNewGirl You can't believe other people have experienced things you haven't? It's especially easy to see when a new person is friends with an experienced player, is fine with however things go just to get experience, and the first people to the pickup game table are experienced.
@justjustinbruh@MagicNewGirl 2 ban list doesn't solve power level issues, it just kicks it down the line. You split things then ban the top 5% strongest cards (however that's determined), now the ceiling came down but is still stronger than the rest of what is going on and you have a massive ban list.
@SaffronOlive It'd be like "oh, Pro Tour Fate Reforged format was neat at the time, we'll lock in on what was available then and call it Modern Fate Format".
@SaffronOlive The Yugioh community has what they call "retro formats". Basically they take the banlist that existed for a specific era or event that was well received and build and play using what was available then. I think we need to start trying that beyond just 93/94 and premodern.
