🇬🇪 | Today marks a historic day for the Georgian Armed Forces. Exactly 17 years ago, during the 2008 Russo–Georgian War, Georgian air defense forces operating a Buk-M1 surface-to-air missile system shot down a Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber as it was preparing to carry out airstrikes on Georgian territory.

This was the first combat loss of a Tu-22M3 in the aircraft’s history.
