[๐ฐ] Why fromis_9's Baek Jiheon Wants to Be Someone Others Can Look Up To [Part 3] | Esquire
Q: You've now become a ninth-year idol. You're even older than the older members were when you first debuted
๐ฏ: For a long time, I was the only minor while all the other members were adults. I used to go to my unnies for advice and talk to them about my worries. Looking back now, some of the things they told me feel really cute. We were all so young back then. (Laughs) It makes me think, "Wow, babies were giving advice to another baby." At the same time, I realize how much I leaned on them and it also makes me think they must have been struggling a lot themselves
Q: You said you've noticed more younger fans recently. When do you feel that the most?
๐ฏ: When we travel overseas, fans often come to the airport. These days, I hear a lot more people calling me "unnie" or "noona." Before, it was mostly people calling out "Jiheon!" Seeing younger fans and new fans in general is always something that makes me really happy
Q: You once said you wanted to become someone younger fans could look up to. What made you feel that way?
๐ฏ: When I was in my final year of high school preparing for the college entrance exam, I filmed Study With Me videos. Afterwards, a lot of people told me they had gotten into university or found jobs after studying alongside those videos. That was when I truly realized the influence I could have on others. It made me feel that I should live more responsibly and try to have a positive impact on people. I want to be someone my fans can proudly say, "I want to be like her", not just someone they admire as a celebrity
Q: You're currently on leave from university, but I've heard you've always taken your studies seriously. What's it like balancing life as both an idol and a college student?
๐ฏ: I really enjoy it. My classmates treat me like any other friend, so during that time I don't feel like idol Baek Jiheon, I just feel like an ordinary university student. It's fascinating and precious to have a part of my life that's completely different from being an entertainer
Q: You've always enjoyed studying. Is there anything new you're learning these days?
๐ฏ: I've recently started studying economics. I've also begun investing a little. I'm the type of person who feels I need to properly understand something before I do it. I studied hard in school, but I realized I didn't know enough about the practical knowledge needed in adult life. So I felt it was time to start learning the things that are important for living as a working adult
Q: I heard that once you find a song you love, you listen to it over and over again. Is there one you'd like to recommend?
๐ฏ: When I was twenty-two, I listened to Choi Yuree's "Sea (๋ฐ๋ค)" constantly. I still remember the first time I heard it. It was right before our Supersonic comeback. I had a lot on my mind, so I went for a walk by the Han River. Even though it was summer, the breeze was cool and as I looked out over the beautiful river while listening to that song, it felt like all my worries disappeared. It was such a beautiful moment that I thought, "I could live off this memory forever." Even now, whenever I hear that song, it brings me back to that day and helps calm my mind
Q: Many people will probably have your new title track, "Vitamin ME," on repeat. How would you introduce it?
๐ฏ: Vitamin ME keeps everything that makes fromis_9 uniquely fromis_9 while adding a more mature feeling. We're still "the group that represents summer," but this time we've also captured a greater sense of confidence and ease, so I think listeners will discover a different side of us
Q: You've participated in songwriting several times before, and this time you wrote lyrics for "DAY 1"
๐ฏ: When I first heard I'd be writing lyrics again, I hesitated. But the members encouraged me to give it a try. At the time, I was actually feeling pretty exhausted. I wrote the lyrics while imagining the kind of person I wanted to become, thinking, "I want to live like the person described in these lyrics." Writing them gave me a lot of strength, and I hope listeners can feel that same comfort and encouragement
Q: Besides "DAY 1" is there another B-side you especially like?
๐ฏ: I really love "Pocket Treat." The melody is great, but my favorite part is the final chorus where all of us sing together. It's so cute that I've replayed that section more than ten times. (Laughs)
Q: You've experienced so many firsts over the past year. Is there anything new you'd still like to try?
๐ฏ: Looking back, we've slowly achieved so many of the things we always dreamed of, our Japanese debut, our world tour, releasing a winter seasonal song, and holding an encore concert. So right now, rather than chasing another huge goal, I want to focus on enjoying this promotion and finishing it happily. But if I had to be a little greedyโฆ I realized we still don't have a spring song. We have Feel Good (SECRET CODE) for autumn and White Memories for winter, but we've never actually had a spring comeback. Maybe next time, I'd love for us to come back in the spring
Q: You've said that memories are the most precious thing to you. How do you hope you'll remember 2026 as a member of fromis_9?
๐ฏ: When I look back, there were many periods when we promoted while feeling anxious or uncertain. Our happiness often depended on how people reacted to us. This time, I hope we won't be so caught up in that. I want us to enjoy ourselves more, have fun together as members and create happy memories during these promotions. I think if we're genuinely relaxed and happy, then our fans will naturally be able to enjoy watching us with the same sense of comfort and happiness

[๐ฐ] fromis_9's Nagyung on Challenging Herself Recently After Returning with Glow ME [Part 1] | Esquire
Q: You came back with bright colored hair for the first time in a while. Was it chosen to match the album's concept?
๐ฃ: I used to experiment a lot with my hair, half and half colors, pink, blonde, all sorts of styles. (Laughs) This time, I bleached my hair for the first time in about four or five years and decided to go with a lighter color. Since the title track is such a refreshing, vitamin-like song, I thought it would suit the concept well. Having bright hair again makes me feel fresh too
Q: You've said you're usually a homebody and people often tell you to go outside more. Is that still true?
๐ฃ: Actually, I recently went on a spontaneous trip. I was chatting with my makeup artist about camping, and the more we talked about it, the more fun it sounded. Since I happened to have the next day off, I called a friend out of nowhere and asked if they wanted to go camping. We barely had time to prepare, but we grilled meat, spent the night in a tent, and just enjoyed ourselves. It was my first camping trip, and I had a lot more fun than I expected. I'd love to do it again
Q: Through fromis_9's YouTube content, you've tried many different hobbies
๐ฃ: Because of that, I've tried boxing, riding motorcycles, ice hockey and so many other things. If I had to pick one to learn again, it'd be baking. My schedule makes it difficult to attend regular classes, but I'd love to sign up for a one day workshop. I want to bake delicious bread for the members and even make dog cookies for my dog Roa
Q: But you're usually hesitant to try unfamiliar foods, aren't you?
๐ฃ: That's true. I usually stick to foods I already know. But once I find something I like, I get hooked really quickly. A few days ago, I tried rose jjimdak for the first time, and it was spicy and really delicious. (Laughs) Recently, Hayoung also made banh xeo on our YouTube series Hanyangkase, and that was my first time trying it too. It was so good that I immediately wanted to eat it again
Q: Your nicknames are "Queen" and "Captain Fool." They're complete opposites
๐ฃ: I've never really thought about those two nicknames together, but that's funny. "Queen" is a nickname the members who've known me for a long time gave me, so I think it's actually closer to how I normally am. (Laughs). "Captain Fool" came from those moments when I accidentally do something clumsy that's unexpectedly funny. Once, I lit the candles on a cake with a match... and then immediately blew out both the match and the candles. Even when I watch that clip now, I think, "Wow... that was really dumb." Originally, though, it came from how I affectionately called our fans "fools" (babodeul), so I wasn't supposed to be the fool. But after enough moments like that, I somehow became both the leader of the fools... and the biggest fool myself
Q: In your videos, you always seem to be laughing whenever you're with the members. What makes each member so funny?
๐ฃ: There are just so many things to laugh about whenever we're together. Chaeyoung is naturally hilarious, especially when she imitates other people. Jiheon always tries to act mature, but whenever her youngest member side slips out, it's just so adorable that I can't help laughing. Hayoung is simply a funny person. She doesn't even have to do anything in particular, just being herself makes me laugh. As for Jiwon, whenever things don't go the way she expected, she'll quietly accept it while looking all dejected. That expression is just so cute
Q: You're known for smiling a lot, but not crying very often. Yet when "LIKE YOU BETTER" won first place on a music show last year, you cried until your eyes turned red. What emotions came over you?
๐ฃ: It was completely unexpected, and every emotion hit me at once. All the happy moments, sad moments, joyful memories, and difficult times we've experienced flashed through my mind. It meant even more because it was our first song after regrouping as five members. For us, that song and those promotions were incredibly important. We were honestly worried about how people would receive the five of us and our music. So, in that moment, realizing that so many people still cared about us and loved us... I just became overwhelmed with emotion
Q: You participated in writing the album's final track, "Wonderland." Aside from songs you've written together with the members, this was your first solo lyric writing credit, right?
๐ฃ: While writing it, I used my imagination a lot. My goal was to create a song that would let people dream together with the message, "If we're together, wherever we are can become Wonderland." When I wrote it, I was thinking about our members and our fans, flovers. But I also think listeners can interpret it however they want, it could be about a lover, family, or friends. I can't wait for the day we perform this song at a concert and hear it filling the venue
Q: This album explores many new genres, including Latin rhythms, Afrobeats, and more electronic sounds
๐ฃ: All of us wanted to try something new. We're already in our ninth year since debut, so we've shown people many different sides of ourselves over the years. Of course, there are still sides we haven't revealed yet, like the solo stages each member performed at our last concert. This album includes a lot of songs that we probably wouldn't have included in the past. I think listeners will definitely feel that it's something fresh
Q: A lot has changed over the past eight years. Is there anything that hasn't?
๐ฃ: The way I feel about our fans. In the past, I wasn't very good at expressing those feelings, but now I try much harder. It's still awkward and difficult sometimes, but everyone has their own way of showing love. I think the people who've supported me for a long time can see the effort and sincerity hidden behind my awkwardness

[๐ฐ] What Does fromis_9 Mean to Chaeyoung? [Part 2] |Esquire
Q: You've appeared as both an MC and a guest on numerous YouTube shows, as well as Radio Star and Knowing Bros. What's the secret behind your variety skills?
๐ฟ๏ธ: My whole family is really funny. Whenever we're talking together, there's this unspoken rule that you have to be entertaining. If what you say isn't funny, the reaction gets cold immediately. You only survive if you're funny. (Laughs) Growing up constantly exchanging jokes and making each other laugh, it just became a natural part of my everyday life. I think that's where it comes from
Q: Is there a variety show you'd still love to appear on?
๐ฟ๏ธ: Running Man. There's a team manager who's been working with us for about eight years, from our previous company until now. They're a huge Running Man fan and always said they desperately wants to see us on the show. They even told us, "If you guys ever appear on Running Man, I'll cry." Hearing that made it one of our dreams too
Q: During broadcasts, you'll be talking enthusiastically one moment, then suddenly say, "I want to go home now," which always gets a laugh
๐ฟ๏ธ: That's usually after I've been holding it in for about two hours. (Laughs). Honestly, I'm not someone with naturally high energy. People always say everyone has a different amount of energy, right? I don't think mine is particularly large. So when I'm at home, I quietly recharge and save up my energy. Then, when it's time to film, I pour everything out. Once my energy runs out... that's when I start saying I want to go home. Flovers already know that's just how I am, so they find it cute
Q: What do you usually do when you're at home?
๐ฟ๏ธ: I hardly drink alcohol, and besides the members and my family, I don't really meet people. The only time I go out on my days off is to shop. I actually enjoy shopping by myself. Otherwise, I stay home playing with my dog. Recently, I've become obsessed with squishy toys, so I play with those too. Or I'll lie down, browse online shopping sites, and watch YouTube
Q: What YouTube channels are you subscribed to?
๐ฟ๏ธ: Surprisingly, I really like true crime content. I watch channels like Tailing the Tale (๊ผฌ๋ฆฌ์ ๊ผฌ๋ฆฌ๋ฅผ ๋ฌด๋ ๊ทธ๋ ์ด์ผ๊ธฐ) and Detectives' Talk (ํ์ฌ๋ค์ ์๋ค) all the time. Whenever I open my tablet, the algorithm is filled with crime-related videos. Maybe that's why, even though I watch YouTube all day at home, I barely know any current trends or memes
Q: Over the past year you've been incredibly busy with your world tour, encore concert and Japanese debut
๐ฟ๏ธ: Even though we've been active for a long time, I realized there were still so many things we'd never experienced. At the same time, I felt incredibly grateful. Those were opportunities we could've easily never had. Knowing they weren't opportunities that simply come to everyone made them even more precious. I also think we were only able to accomplish everything because we've spent so many years together and understand each other so well. Trying something completely new in your ninth year isn't easy. But we've learned how to work together and we all shared the same determination to make it happen. That's how we made it this far
Q: You've said that simply being able to continue together under the name fromis_9 is deeply moving. What does fromis_9 mean to you?
๐ฟ๏ธ: It feels like a part of my body. Like my left arm that's resting on this table right now. It's beyond the point of thinking about what it means anymore. It's simply something that's always with me. Because it's always there, sometimes I don't consciously think about it but it's an irreplaceable part of me
Q: I heard you spent a long time talking with the members yesterday. What were you discussing?
๐ฟ๏ธ: We were talking about what we can do for our flovers during this promotion. There's a lyric in our title track that says, "Not A, B, C, Vitamin ME." So we discussed how we could become a "vitamin" for our fans, how we could make even more people feel happy during this comeback
Q: You wrote the lyrics for "Cold Blood." It's your first time writing lyrics on your own. What story did you want to tell?
๐ฟ๏ธ: The title Cold Blood literally means being cold hearted. But whenever I meet someone who's truly cold, I tend to think there's probably hidden pain inside them. Maybe they were hurt by people they loved and became cold to protect themselves. That's the kind of heart I wanted to write about. I'd describe it as a song about the "F" hidden inside someone who looks like a "T"
Q: The three of you doing today's photoshoot are also the members who perform the unit song "Cold Blood"
๐ฟ๏ธ: Come to think of it, we've almost never shown this particular 3 member combination before. So I think it'll feel really fresh. When I was writing the lyrics, I kept imagining the three of us performing together on stage during a concert. This is also the first photoshoot we've ever done as a trio, so I feel like we've already given everyone a proper preview of Cold Blood
Q: After your encore concert at Korea University's Hwajeong Gymnasium earlier this year, you said you'd become even more ambitious. What's your next goal?
๐ฟ๏ธ: Until recently, I honestly thought it was enough just to be able to stand on stage, meet flovers, and continue promoting. Even if we performed in a very small venue, I always felt grateful. But as our concerts became bigger and I could actually see how many people were cheering for us, I started wanting to do even better. Just as our fans feel happy when they see us, we feel just as happy when we see them. So lately, I've been thinking a lot about wanting to meet flovers in even more places and put on even better performances
