Gallup has race within 1 point. They're calling it tied, but this is not the case. Still, the McCain bounce is fading before it should have.

McCain needs to tone down the media-persecution complex. Not get rid of it, but it seems to crop up in every interview now. It's wearisome.

Is NY in play? Doubtful. McCain would have to be tied at this stage to have a hope of winning the state. And NY would require massive cash.

Put most simply: Dean's 50-state strategy is very smart. Obama's 50-state strategy was his biggest miscalculation so far.

Word is the Obama campaign is dropping their attacks on Palin and refocusin on McCain. Everyone else in the political world says: "Finally."

Were I McCain, I'd start moving focus from MI to MN. MI hasn't shifted much despite massive money. MN seems close despite no money at all.

538 wants Obama to say of Palin "Like her but don't vote for her." Bad move. "You like him, so vote for him" is the only thing Obama's got.

Someone on RedState thinks Palin frees McCain to be a maverick. He's already pushing for stem cell research. Immigration might be next.

Jake Tapper calls him "Barack 'Isotoner' Obama". Liberals always try to "take the gloves off", but the GOP just plays dirty better.

Can McCain win Washington? Unlikely, unless the result is very lopsided. It looks close, but this is as good as McCain can do in Washington.

McCain up 3 is probably still mostly the bounce. But barring something significant, the race has probably settled at McCain +1 for now.

Dems need to be careful not to be carried away by the anti-war left. It's one thing to be anti-Iraq and another to oppose defending allies.

Offering Obama a cabinet post will backfire. Cabinet appointees are unelected national executives. McCain is saying he would vote for Obama.

Is Palin ready to be President? Both parties should back off it. Talking too much about it looks like a masked discussion of McCain's age.

Be skeptical of reports that Obama's having trouble raising money online. His campaign has tried to lower expectations this way before.

USAT poll says McCain has closed gap on economy. Be careful. Non-preference questions are extremely volatile. Might be closer than it looks.
