New MIT report on how AI affecting the university. One downside: fewer study groups + fewer students at office hours (easier to just ask GPT!). The solution is to *change structure and expectations* so that in-person student interaction remains high, not to throw up our hands.
Ts. Nur 'Aqilah Zainuddin, founder of Aiszzy Electronics, is on a mission to make repairs accessible - teaching people to fix appliances themselves instead of paying hundreds at repair shops.
After her mother's passing in 2021, she began sharing repair tutorials online.
The best career advice for young people is to just focus relentlessly on 3 things:
1. Get skilled. Technical skills, writing skills, people-orchestration skills, everything.
2. Get involved contributing to a mission you're aligned with. It doesn't have to be pure bliss and your contribution doesn't have to match your top strengths exactly. But at the end of the day you have to feel some pride in what you did or what you learned. If you can find something like that while becoming skilled in a number of different ways then you'll find ways to increasingly wrap your skill profile around it (and you'll find/develop strengths in your skill profile that you never expected).
3. Pick up momentum. If you do (1) and (2) right then you've got direction and potential and all that's left is to sprint forwards and achieve it. The more momentum you pick up, the better you get, the more real value you produce, the more opportunities you create, the more you get noticed, the more value you capture into your own life, the more effort you want to put in... you create a virtuous cycle with so much momentum behind it that it becomes an unstoppable virtuous cyclone.
A Brown professor gave his students a take-home midterm exam. After suspecting many cheated using AI, he made the final in-person. The orange dots are the midterm scores and the gray dots are the final scores. Looks like all but 3 cheated on the midterm.
After almost 4 years of hard work, I'm very happy to share something which I hope will be a game-changer for election data in Malaysia:
https://t.co/hW0OIDm594
To cut a (very) long story short, the site gives you access to Malaysia's COMPLETE electoral history. Every election, every candidate, every party, every seat - all there at your fingertips.
There are 5 types of datasets available:
• Parlimen/DUN-level results (the 'official' results, covering every single election since 1955)
• Parlimen/DUN-level maps (covering every single boundary-drawing exercise since 1954)
• Anonymised individual-level voter rolls for GE-13, GE-14, and GE-15, as well as Johor 2022 and N9 2023 (more to come soon)
• Saluran (!!!!) level results for GE-13, GE-14, and GE-15, as well as Johor 2022 and N9 2023 (also more to come soon)
• DM-level maps for the latest set (versions going back to 2003 will follow eventually)
Enjoy!
Data-cleaning and curation is bitter work, but once it's done once, everyone can reap the benefits.
I'm joining OpenAI next week!🥹 The job search turned out to be really challenging but also super rewarding, so I wrote a small blog to share what I learned along the way and hopefully make the process a little less mysterious for the next person. https://t.co/6FigSBdenD
最近在带入组的本科实习生,发现怎么读论文其实是科研训练里最容易被忽略的一步。
推荐一篇每个科研新人都该读的经典短文:S. Keshav 的 How to Read a Paper。
文章提出了非常实用的“三遍读论文法”:
第一遍,5 到 10 分钟快速扫读:标题、摘要、引言、章节标题、结论和参考文献。
目标是回答 5C:
Category, Context, Correctness, Contributions, Clarity。

MIT DEDICATED A FULL LECTURE TO GIT'S INTERNALS -- BECAUSE THEY FOUND MOST DEVS MEMORIZE THE COMMANDS AND HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE TOOL ACTUALLY DOES
A whole 85 minutes MIT session that refuses to teach git as a list of commands to copy, and instead shows you the data model underneath -- the thing that makes every command finally make sense.
-> The moment it clicks, git stops being scary magic. You stop memorizing "The incantation that fixed it last time" and start actually knowing what's happening.
Most people learn just enough git to not get fired. Four commands, blind faith, and a prayer before every merge.
In 2026 that's not enough anymore -> git is the literacy test for being in the room, and "I'll just reclone it" is the fastest way to look junior.
An AI agent will branch, commit and rebase faster than you can read. When it tangles the history, untangling it runs on understanding the model MIT teaches in this one hour.
Anyone can run git push. The person who understands the graph underneath is the one who saves the repo when it breaks.

A recent graduate from a good university in the UK asked me how to maintain his mathematics skills.
It’s a very fair question.
The reality is that in most data science jobs only a small fraction of the mathematics you learned is actually used.
I saw a guy studying math in Starbucks today.
Table: one book.
Tools: a pen and a stack of paper.
He wrote down a problem.
Then just… stared at it.
Five minutes.
Ten minutes.
Twenty minutes.
Like a psychopath.
No laptop.
No ChatGPT.
No YouTube “calculus in 10 minutes.”
Just a page full of symbols and a guy thinking.
Then he crossed everything out.
Started again.
More symbols.
More scratching on paper.
More staring into space like he was trying to summon Euler.
An hour later he had solved one problem.
One.
Meanwhile the guy next to him refreshed his email 27 times and watched two productivity videos.
Funny thing about math.
The people who look the least busy
are usually the ones actually doing the hardest work.
The speed at which FF announced this is the only clue you need -
Gov has been keeping this in their pocket, and was just looking for an appropriate excuse to shove it down our throats.
Some crucial points:
1. Even if you support age verification for social media (which is understandable), you should NOT support mandatory linking of a government-issued ID to social media profiles.
2. Gov should do the legwork first - come up with an OPEN-SOURCED mechanism for a way to prove age with zero-knowledge (meaning: the social media platform only verifies that you are > 12 or 18), without the social media platform ever knowing your official identity.
3. Don't be naive. Election season is coming up. There's a reason gov wants this - it is a direct route to shutting down free expression. Let me remind PH folks - one of the crucial tools in toppling the corrupt Najib gov was a free Internet.
Don't allow the gov a free pass on this. Just because we agree with the goal of protecting children, doesn't mean this is the solution.
And a final thought - if it wasn't painfully obvious already, PH no longer represents the principles they tunggang to win.
