NADCEL 2026: 7 DIVISION NIGERIAN ARMY ORGANISES PUBLIC SPEAKING OUTREACH TO STUDENTS IN MAIDUGURI

In line with the activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026, the 7 Division Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, on 3 July 2026 organised a public speaking engagement for students of Government College Maiduguri and Command Secondary School, Auno, at Government College Maiduguri.

The engagement underscored the Nigerian Army's commitment to youth development, civic responsibility and national unity as it commemorates its 163rd anniversary of dedicated service to the nation.
It was also designed to educate the students on the dangers of cultism, drug and substance abuse, and other forms of criminality. It also enlightened them on career opportunities in the Nigerian Army, enlistment requirements, the Army's values of professionalism, camaraderie and inclusiveness, civil-military relations, community development initiatives, patriotism, and the importance of honesty and integrity. The engagement was centred on the NADCEL 2026 theme, "Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army."

Delivering the opening remarks, the General Officer Commanding 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Solomon Diwa, represented by the Deputy Director of Islamic Affairs, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Colonel Mohammad Ahmad, expressed gratitude to Almighty God for the Nigerian Army's achievements and enduring service to the nation. He reaffirmed the Division's commitment to the Chief of Army Staff's Command Philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, combat-ready and collaborative force capable of effectively addressing contemporary security challenges within a joint and multi agency environment.

He also appreciated the management, staff and students of Government College Maiduguri and Command Secondary School, Auno, for their warm reception and support. He noted that the engagement was aimed at promoting patriotism, educating young Nigerians on Army ethics and recruitment processes, and creating awareness on the dangers of cultism and drug abuse. He therefore urged the students to pay close attention to the presentations and make good use of the knowledge shared by the resource persons.

Delivering the key note address, the Special Guest of Honour, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Borno State, represented by the Director of Science and Technical Education, Mr Matawalle Ahmed, commended the Nigerian Army for its sacrifices in restoring peace and creating a secure environment that has enabled schools across Borno State to flourish. He noted that the Army's support to schools, protection of educational institutions and sustained youth engagement have contributed significantly to lasting peace and development in the state.

He reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigerian Army through the promotion of peace education, civic responsibility, vocational skills and patriotism, while encouraging the troops to remain professional and continue serving with dedication and respect for human rights.

In his remarks, the Principal of Government College Maiduguri, Mr Abba Ali Laddan, expressed profound appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu for the initiative and the General Officer Commanding 7 Division Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Solomon Diwa, for selecting the school to benefit from the initiative. He described the outreach as timely, impactful and inspiring, noting that it had broadened the students' understanding of patriotism and career opportunities in the Nigerian Army.

NADCEL 2026: 3 BRIGADE ENGAGES KANO STUDENTS, HERPES ON PATRIOTISM, CAREER DEVELOPMENT

As part of activities marking the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army has organised Public Speaking Engagement for students and staff of Tony Cheta International Group of Schools, Kano.
The 2026 NADCEL event is themed: "Protecting the Nation and Serving the People: A Way Forward for the Nigerian Army."

Speaking during the event, the Commander 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Saka Jimoh, urged students to embrace discipline, hard work, and academic excellence which is the foundation for growth and national development.

The Brigade Commander explained that the Public Speaking Engagement was organised to promote patriotism, responsible citizenship, and strengthening civil-military relations by enlightening young Nigerians on the roles, values, and career opportunities available in the Nigerian Army. He noted that, the programme reflects the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the NADCEL 2026 theme by investing in education and mentorship of future leaders.

Brigadier General Jimoh also described teachers as indispensable partners in nation-building, noting that their influence extends beyond the classroom to shaping the character and future of young Nigerians.

He cautioned students against all forms of dishonesty and social vices such as drug abuse, internet fraud, cultism, and other criminal activities, stressing that they undermine integrity, limit future opportunities, and national development; urging the students to remain patriotic, focused, and committed to their education, emphasising that they are the future of Nigeria.

Earlier, the Brigade Assistant Chief of Staff, Administration, Lieutenant Colonel Gbenga Adekunle and the Brigade Education Officer, Maj Hassan Abdullahi in different presentations herpes on patriotism, honesty, integrity, and responsible citizenship, encouraging the students to uphold moral values while avoiding crime, cultism, and substance abuse.

The Officers encouraged interested students to pursue their academic aspirations diligently in the Nigerian Army, highlighting numerous career opportunities available, including engineering, medical services, logistics, intelligence, communications, education, and other professional fields.

In his remarks, the Director of Tony Cheta International Group of Schools, Mr Tony Emecheta, commended the Nigerian Army for its unwavering commitment to youth development through mentorship, education, and community engagement, describing the NADCEL initiative as a demonstration of the Army’s dedication to building responsible future leaders while strengthening the bond between the military and the civilian population.

Speaking on behalf of the students, Andrew Success and Confidence George, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Army for the enlightening session. They noted that the programme has broadened their understanding of the military, corrected misconceptions, and inspired many of them with the mindset to contribute positively to national development.

Highlights of the event include, interactive session, presentation of souvenirs and educational materials and group photograph.

NADCEL 2026: COAS REAFFIRMS NIGERIAN ARMY’S READINESS TO SAFEGUARD NIGERIA AGAINST EMERGING SECURITY THREATS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigerian Army to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty, defending its territorial integrity and safeguarding citizens against evolving security threats. He made this known at the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 Lecture held at the Obiwali International Conference Centre, Portharcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday, 4 July 2026. The COAS described the event as a strategic platform for examining the changing dynamics of national security and strengthening the collective resolve to build a peaceful, secure and prosperous Nigeria.

The COAS observed that Nigeria’s security environment has become increasingly complex, driven by insurgency, terrorism, banditry, cyber warfare, transnational organised crime and resource-based conflicts. He further noted that regional instability across the Lake Chad Basin, the Sahel Region and the Gulf of Guinea, as well as the growing influence of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and cyber capabilities, continue to redefine the contemporary battlespace. He stressed that these realities demand a Nigerian Army that is agile, adaptive, innovative and operationally prepared to confront both present and future threats.

Speaking on the lecture theme, “Protecting the People and the Dynamics of Nigeria’s National Security: Way Forward for the Nigerian Army,” General Shaibu described the discourse as timely and strategically relevant to the Army’s transformation drive. He commended the Guest Speaker, General Martin Luther Agwai (Rtd), for his thought-provoking presentation, while appreciating the discussants and moderators for providing valuable perspectives that will contribute to enhancing Nigeria’s national security architecture and operational effectiveness.

The COAS stated that the Nigerian Army has continued to strengthen its operational effectiveness through intelligence-led operations, joint and multi-agency collaboration, enhanced civil-military cooperation, the integration of emerging technologies and the deliberate application of both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches across theatres of operation. He added that the Service remains firmly committed to a people-centric operational philosophy, guided by respect for human rights, strict adherence to the Rules of Engagement and the protection of civilians, while sustaining decisive actions against all threats to national security.

Lieutenant General Shaibu emphasised that the path to enduring national security lies in continuous innovation, professionalism, strategic partnerships, technological advancement and the institutionalisation of the Soldier-First Culture philosophy as a force multiplier for operational excellence. He commended officers and soldiers for their relentless commitment and sacrifices in defence of the nation, while expressing appreciation to the Federal Government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, sister services, security agencies, development partners and patriotic Nigerians for their continued support towards achieving lasting peace, security and national development.

Earlier, the Special Guest of Honour, His Royal Majesty, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), described the Nigerian Army as a central pillar of Nigeria’s peace, stability and national development. He noted that the ongoing modernisation of the Service is both timely and strategic, positioning it to anticipate, prevent and effectively manoeuvre against emerging threats to national security through intelligence-led, technology-driven and future-ready operations.
