There is a difference.

Christian principles prohibit the state from interfering in how people worship God.

It also prohibits the people from vexing the stranger and only interfering with them when they break laws.

Inherently the constitution was designed to protect Christianity.

A republic can only function properly when men voluntarily serve God.

A state enforced religion can never replace the work of the Holy Spirit on the hearts of men to ensure that a republic survives.

That is why America is founded on Christian principles and it is not inherently a Christian nation like Muslim countries are Muslim nations.
