Each NPC in Minecraft uses an AI system to pathfind, attack, or find something. A zombie, for instance, uses pathfinding to avoid falling to its death or walking into lava. Our AI system is a much more intricate version of this AI system to act like a player. This is different than the other kind of popular use of AI used for LLMs and generative AI. All of the AI in Minecraft runs on the device, just like it does for other NPC characters in video games.

The new 'AI players addon' means you'll always have Minecraft friends, even while offline (and no, there's no gen AI involved).
