@nivenrile @BookBearodactyl May I suggest a book? Psychoanalysis of Fire, by Gaston Bachelard. The title is misleading; it's a book about poetics, the evocative power of fire and its place in storytelling. The hearth, the gently smoldering pipe. Epic myths and the everyday wonder of tending a fireplace.

@flyfoxpro @nivenrile Ah, well. To each its own. Monstrous Regiment isn't exactly my favorite either, but it's not a bad story at all.

Let us agree that out of 41 novels, having only two or three lesser works is a hell of an achievement.

@SamRobbWrites @nivenrile A bold choice, starting in the middle of the City Watch storyline; but I guess it wouldn't so much spoil what came before as give her intriguing hints. Glad to hear there is another Pratchett fan out there, now :-)

As @flyfoxpro said, Raising Steam isn't the best novel to start.

I would recommend Guards! Guards! or Mort. Give it another try. It's worth it.

@flyfoxpro @nivenrile And nowhere is this decline more obvious than in Raising Steam. It feels off. Every character seems to speak in the same voice, there are no real stakes, no drama. Reading that and remembering the quick wit and the storytelling genius that came before was a sad, sad experience.

@IlanaMiraL The whole show is a love letter to slow, meditative science-fiction. I'm getting Solaris vibes (the soviet one, by Tarkovsky).

The nostalgia reminds me of the first season of Stranger Things.

The visual palette. The writing. The acting. THE MUSIC! Truly, Hollywood is far from being dead if uncompromising, intelligent, artsy shows like this one can see the light of day.

@OldManDaud @haider1 How on earth did the epithet "disruptor" become something to brag about? To "dirupt" an industry became, in the heathen newspeak of the techbros, synonymous with success. They are the new Huns. Where they pass, the grass does not regrow.
