The big problem with writing on the Internet:

Before social media, people succeeded on merit.

Quality content. Fresh perspectives. Insightful ideas.

But then algorithms shoved their way onto the scene. Social media devolved into a circus of copycats as everyone leapt on the next trending hack, hoping for fast growth.

Now, I'm no saint.

I've sucked on the digital dopamine crackpipe my fair share too.

But trust me on this:

How you grow your audience is more important than how fast.

If you get drawn into playing the same game as everyone else, don't be surprised when you get the same results. Like Munger once said, mimicking the herd invites regression to the mean.

People tell you that attention is the new oil because it's a sexy statement. But what they don't say is that most early oil companies crashed and burned.

The same is happening online.

We're acting lemmings without realising the risk. We become commodities in crowded markets, and that's a terrible place to be.

You must focus on quality.

You must focus on being different.

You must focus on getting great at a skill.

And you must commit to serving a small group of people with it because if you try to please everyone, you please no one.
