@royalacademy I've had this book for years and do dip into it now and again. It's good to see the RA has a small exhibition of the work of Joe Orton and Kenneth Halliwell. They served 6 months in prison for defacing library books. Doing bird gave Joe the time to write his first play.
@royalacademy Re-imagining the Gilbert and George book. Vandalism or art, you decide? GILBERT & GEORGE resigned from the RA. I can't remember why, but I'm sure it was profound?
@royalacademy I'm getting Errollyn Wallen's autobiography for Christmas, Becoming a Composer. I heard her on Radio 3 and was inspired to paint this portrait.
@royalacademy I might re-read the novel I wrote. Walter Sickert made 3 paintings of Rue Pecquet, and my grandfather lived at number 2. His mother worked at the fish market with Sickert's partner, Augustine Villain. I still have a few copies left, ยฃ10 including P&P. I painted the cover portrait
@royalacademy Kenneth Halliwell was a collage artist who has largely been forgotten as an artist. Possibly due to him murdering Joe Orton and then committing suicide.
@NationalGallery When Van Dyck got the job as court painter to King Charles the first. He apparently went to Frans Hals' house to ask him to go with him. Unfortunately, Frans was down the boozer.
@NationalGallery Looks like Sir Anthony Van Dyck. I always call this painting the Lennox brothers. I think they were Stewarts, and they both during the Civil War?
@royalacademy I made this painting in 1990 at The Cardinal Wiseman High School while teaching with Andy Pankhurst and Tom Davies at the Saturday Art Class.
Tomorrow, Andy Pankhurst will lead our Saturday Sketch Club session on drawing costumes. Join us online at 10:30am with a pencil and paper. Book your place now โคต๏ธ https://t.co/TIYtHTNsXt
