Just watched #LineOfDuty (‘19), and not proud of it. Like an AI-generated a script of a disgraced cop solving a kidnapping by purposely tipping his hand via vlog—idiot plotting rules the day…
2 regrets: time I’ll never get back + no double-up on the Netflix thumbs down button.
@Roderick_Heath Gus the tortoise, another strong, silent type, also just turned 💯. Sometimes slow and steady actually does win the race. https://t.co/f6ZPdg0oKm
@Roderick_Heath#BlameItOnRio is the worst movie that I’ve seen twice (shame on me).
Michael Caine is one of those actors who have been in films ranging in quality from alpha to omega—thankfully more of the former than the latter.
@Tico_Romao John Huston, like Howard Hawks, made a series of excellent manly man films while being manly. Huston doled out a big helping of desperation and failure, giving a real edge that could move from darkly comic to uncomfortably tragic (ie #TheMisfits ´61, #FatCity ´72).
It’s ironic that some of my favourite films (#MASH ‘70, #McCabeAndMrsMiller ‘71, the aforementioned #TheLongGoodbye ´73, #Nashville ´75 and #ThePlayer ´92) are all excellent examples of the very genres they take down. Robert Altman blazed his own trail…
“There’s an air of exhaustion to ‘The Long Goodbye,’” writes @SeanMBurns, “which drops Marlowe -- an avatar of Hollywood’s most romantic myths – into a washed-out wasteland of shallow, avaricious sociopaths.” https://t.co/JluoBljDJV
@Roderick_Heath I’ve argued before that Rafelson’s #FiveEasypieces (‘70) is (along with Romero’s #NightOfTheLivingDead ´68) the most influential film for subsequent lower budget independent pictures. It’s influence and sensibility are everywhere.
Now that the late Norm MacDonald has left this mortal coil I have no interest in the ESPYS—that said, giving the Arthur Ashe Award to Kiev mayor and retired HW champ #VitaliKlitschko is good to see. He referred to Ali and Mandela, literal and figurative fighters both.
