Arsenal’s 2003–04 “Invincibles” Season
Arsenal, managed by Arsène Wenger, became the first (and still only) team in Premier League history to go an entire season unbeaten.
• Record: 38 games – 26 wins, 12 draws, 0 losses
• Points: 90
• Goals: 73 scored, 26 conceded
• Key result: Clinched the title with a 2–2 draw at Tottenham, then finished the season with a 2–1 win over Leicester City at Highbury (15 May 2004).
Core players
Thierry Henry (main goalscorer), Patrick Vieira (captain), Dennis Bergkamp, Robert Pires, Freddie Ljungberg, Sol Campbell, Ashley Cole, Gilberto Silva, Kolo Touré and Jens Lehmann.
They played attractive, attacking football with strong defence and leadership. Their unbeaten run eventually reached 49 consecutive league games. It remains one of the greatest achievements in English football history.
Good afternoon,my friends. As you saw, we started with the AC Milan team, recalling the great times that marked that side in 2007. I hope we continue with other teams. Today we’re going to look at Arsenal of 2004 . the ones who went undefeated that season (the Invincibles). I thank you very much for the love you’ve shown me; it has given me strength.
The AC Milan 2006/07 team (coached by Carlo Ancelotti) is one of the club’s most legendary sides. They won the 2007 Champions League by beating Liverpool 2-1 in Athens, avenging the 2005 final.
Formation: 4-3-2-1 (“Christmas Tree”)
Typical lineup: Dida; Oddo, Nesta, Maldini, Jankulovski; Gattuso, Pirlo, Ambrosini; Seedorf, Kaká; Inzaghi
Style: Intelligent possession football, strong defense, midfield control (led by Pirlo), and creative freedom for Kaká
Key players: Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Andrea Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso, Clarence Seedorf, Kaká (Ballon d’Or 2007), Filippo Inzaghi
They finished 4th in Serie A (after a points deduction) but were excellent in Europe.
