The 2026 Spring Chicago Open Go Tournament attracted more than 100 players, bringing together local talent from the Chicago area, competitors from across the United States, and international players from around the world.

We just finished a session with 41 future teachers from National Louis University about using Go for Game-Based Learning in the future. We discussed how students can learn math and decision-making through the game.
This month marks exactly 10 years since the historic AlphaGo vs. Lee Sedol match in March 2016. To celebrate this milestone, students in all my classes are watching the AlphaGo documentary and participating in a challenge to predict the final score.

Norio Wada, former International Go Federation prez & founding prez of the Iwamoto North American Go Foundation, died Jan. 9. A pivotal figure in global Go, Wada laid the foundation for lasting support of Go in North America.

Japanese Go community is also working on international outreach. Kisei titleholder Ichiriki and 10-dan Toramaru Shibano have arrived in Hawaii ahead of Game 1 of the Kisei title match tomorrow (Jan 22). The hand gestures in the photo are quite amusing—you may guess their meaning.
