Shueisha a très bien joué le coup pour contrer les revendeurs qui comptaient créer une pénurie artificielle en vidant les rayons des magasins.

Pour rappel : pour célébrer les 29 ans de One Piece dans le Weekly Shonen Jump, Shueisha a offert une carte promotionnelle de Luffy avec le magazine. Des revendeurs se sont alors rués sur les librairies et les konbini pour acheter tous les exemplaires disponibles, ne gardant que la carte et jetant parfois le magazine à la poubelle.

Au départ, la rareté a fait grimper le prix de la carte sur le marché de la revente. Mais Shueisha avait anticipé le phénomène : l'éditeur avait prévu un énorme tirage supplémentaire (environ 500 000 exemplaires), a annoncé que tous les acheteurs de la version numérique recevraient également la carte, et l'a aussi distribuée à l'international.

Résultat : le marché a été inondé de cartes, leur valeur s'est effondrée en quelques jours, et certaines boutiques spécialisées dans les cartes à collectionner ont même suspendu temporairement leur rachat en attendant que les prix se stabilisent.

It turns out that scalpers will go even further when it comes to being morally bankrupt. In the Philippines, one mysterious "financer" has paid minors to line up at a mall for the release of the Ascended Heroes pack the night before the set becomes available.

Scalpers are now resorting to child exploitation just so they can hoard and resell Pokémon Cards at x200 more than the actual retail price because they couldn't be bothered to find an actual job. Disgraceful.
