"Now Allie, now Baby, now Kit-Kat, and Smoke,
On Cocheese, on Cinder, on Merle, and Frisco!
To the top of the hill, to the field full of snipes, gallop and gallop, faster than light."
And then I exclaimed, as I rode out of sight,
"HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!"
I hoped up on Merle, looked over at Cinder
I thought about Morgan, and how much I missed her.
More rapid than cheetahs my horses can run
I called them by name, each and every one:
Out the front door I flew like a flash
Ran over the pool cover without making a splash
The moon on the breast (hehe) of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below,
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But all of my horses saddled and near
With Merle in his stable I kicked off my boots
I laid down my head and prepared for a snooze
When out in the barn there arouse such a clatter
Did Kit-Kat kick over the big wooden latter?
Twas the night before Christmas and all across the ranch
Not a creature was stirring from the barn to the branch
The smell of Taco Bell hung in the air
My family discussed who is our favorite mare;
Dan the mini-horse slept snug in his pen
And dreamed of outrunnning Rudy again
