A theory I've been working on: will as a property of the universe
We exist as a product of natural laws, and we make choices. People say we're "just chemicals," and that's true. But if we're just chemicals, and we have will, then where did the will come from?
Let's look closer.
At the cells in our bodies. They travel, have roles, and can deviate from those roles. Some white blood cells immediately attack, others wait, others search for another white blood cell, even under similar conditions.
At the molecule. Some molecules, when they meet, bond. Two nitrogen dioxide molecules can pair up into one. Others ignore each other completely. Hydrogen and oxygen gas can sit mixed together for years without reacting. Others break apart. Hydrogen peroxide slowly splits into water and oxygen on its own. And even when two molecules are known to bond, most of their collisions end with them bouncing off each other unchanged
.
At the atom. Some atoms give themselves to each other. Sodium hands an electron to chlorine, and together they become salt. Others share. Two hydrogen atoms hold their electrons in common and become one molecule. Others refuse to bond at all. Helium stays alone no matter who it meets. Some break apart. A uranium atom can split without warning, and no one can say when.
Science describes all of this beautifully. But science describes what matter does, from the outside. It doesn't tell us what matter is on the inside. There's only one place in the universe where we get to see the inside of matter, and that's ourselves. And on the inside, we find will.
So here's my either/or. Either there is no will anywhere, including in us, or will is everywhere, in every bit of matter. We can't give it only to humans just because we're the ones who can look inward and talk about it.
Some will say will just emerges, the way wetness emerges from water molecules even though no single molecule is wet. But wetness is only behavior. Once you explain what the molecules do, there's nothing left to explain. Will isn't like that. You could map every chemical reaction in your brain and still not explain why choosing feels like something. Something can't come from nothing that had any trace of it.
So I think will may be a fundamental property of the universe, like mass or charge. Charge is in every particle, but it only becomes lightning when enough of it gathers in the right way. Will may be the same: faint in the atom, stronger in the cell, and clear in us.
Now zoom out. Communities. Countries. They search for resources, conflict and bond, nurture and torture. Networks of communication internally and externally. Governments as a brain. Our collective will and culture makes up its personality and actions. Internal conflicts and debates just like us, only grander.
Keep zooming out, more and more. Does the pattern stop? I don't think it does. When I zoom out as far as I can, I see God.
@muuusic_mendoza@JohnMoreyAuthor@TheBeanerBank@itsdeaann It doesn't compare you fucking animal. That's the point. I'm saying you, you specifically, just praised his unjust death. The execution is a just killing. That's the point you fucking dunce
@JohnMoreyAuthor@TheBeanerBank@itsdeaann What did you guys do with that video? What t-shirts and costumes did you make? I've met you freaks in real life who praised it to my face. You scum don't get to gaslight us into thinking killing a criminal of the most heinous degree is bad in any way.
@NinKenDough@tommysantos14 The context of me being right make me right, cussing might scare you kid, but it happens.
Scumbag, I'm sure you already know he didn't mean bomb like all of you first lied about so now your falling back on another ba exaggeration.
I'm done with you foundationally cucked bozos.
