A fun bonus of doing ECW re-enactment means your kit is in more or less the right state to play pirates! When we’re not wowing the Wirral with our fire swords, we also love a good sea shanty round the campfire. Here’s our breakdown of some of the different types of songs at sea.

The Fo'c's'le shanty. Tired out from a long day of singing while you work? Let’s sing while we relax instead! Fo’c’s’le or forecastle songs were used to chill out and tell stories at the end of the day. E.g.: Rolling Down To Old Maui, Spanish Ladies and Wellerman.

As well as being a lot of fun, night firing is a great way for our experienced musketeers to practice their skills, while reminding the rest of us quite how substantial musket fire can be!

A cracking start to out weekend at @NortonPriory! Muskets were fired, spoons were whittled, willow was stripped and stew was eaten. Bring on tomorrow

We'll be throwing Norton Priory back to the 17th century this weekend! Expect weapons displays, dancing, kids activities and soooo much more. Camp opens from 10am!

We're so grateful to Ziggy, Rosie and the rest of Waller's for letting Reilly get involved and we can't wait to see them on the field this season!

It turns out if you don't ask, you don't get! Meet Ziggy. When he heard how badly Reilly wanted to try cavalry, he very kindly agreed to let her give it a go at a Waller's training weekend

The only combat role I still really want to try out is cavalry so if anyone has a spare horse or even an eager battle donkey, get in touch!

Together they managed to sword fight, fire a pistol during a gallop march, keep their dressings well enough and endure a hefty amount of sitting trot (rising trot tragically not being authentic)
