I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
I don’t think it’s appropriate for most high school kids to have to trawl the whole internet to do a research assignment. Give them some good websites to start with.
@offgridteacher@Larryferlazzo I feel like I've been told conflicting things regarding order, but consistently that multiple representations is key (like having text and video, or text and picture)...but I don't have specific references
Most of my ELL students say they prefer to read content first, and then watch videos about it. A few say the opposite. What does research say about best way 2 learn?
I like stories about scientists finding something that is "obviously wrong" then realizing it's definitely right (things like Planck's constant, Rutherford's scattering experiment)
When Einstein published his 1905 paper on the particle theory of light, Millikan was convinced that it had to be wrong and carefully designed experiments to disprove them, but ended up confirming the particle nature of light, winning a Nobel Prize for that https://t.co/cxIe6N0jyK
Thinking about anscombe's quartet and "datasaurus" with regards to my grading practices and how I want to grade...not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about, but if you do/have thoughts, I'm curious to hear them
For those of you filling in your Science Olympiad brackets at home...both @A2_ClagueMS and @HuronHighA2 Flights placed second overall in their respective divisions
Lots of work goes in to the building of the planes in preparation for Science Olympiad #Flight competition @A2_ClagueMS @A2Slauson Clague is flying now!
Last week my students were expressing their frustration with my black and white slides and told me "you seem like the kind of teacher who would use memes on their slides, but you don't."
Does anyone have any good chemistry memes for my students?
@Teachforaliving@tevetorbes What about a phone/app that recognizes a QR code on the screen? I'm pretty sure snapchat had something like this for the snap code things so I imagine that's also pretty easy
When I was in high school I didn’t have money for a Science Olympiad project so this store in Hartselle Alabama gave me and my buddy Stevo hardware and supplies for free. Because of them we won State (also because Stevo understood op-amps and 555 timers). Told them thanks today.
Forget the ions, forget the charges.
Let's just figure out how to write compounds with different numbers of elements.
Don't know yet whether I'll keep the title of this practice set. Leaning toward "yes".
