A Bangladeshi woman remained in a Hazaribagh detention centre for years after completing her prison sentence in 2020.

She has accused three police personnel of repeatedly raping her. All three have been suspended.

The Jharkhand High Court has sought answers over her prolonged detention and ordered inspections of detention facilities across the state.

A Muslim woman has alleged that she was asked sexually inappropriate questions during a job interview at Bhargav’s Music in Lajpat Nagar.

She claims the interviewer asked whether she would be comfortable travelling for 3–4 days with senior colleagues, including men, and whether she would be willing to engage in physical intimacy during such trips.

She further alleged that she was asked whether she would agree if a senior colleague, reportedly aged 50–60, offered her additional money or other benefits.

The full Vande Mataram has six stanzas.

The first two praise the motherland, its rivers, fertile fields, greenery, cool breeze, moonlight and natural beauty.

The later stanzas introduce more Hindu religious imagery, portraying the motherland through the imagery of Hindu goddesses. The fifth stanza explicitly invokes Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati.

In 1937, the Congress Working Committee, including Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel & Subhas Chandra Bose, decided that only the first two stanzas should be used at national gatherings.

The idea was to preserve the song’s patriotic essence while making it a common national symbol in a religiously diverse India.
