There are many things of note about the CJI's recent statement on the Ayodhya dispute.
1. He and the Ayodhya bench did not "find a solution" to the dispute. They found in favour of the powerful party that illegally demolished the mosque. 'Might is right' can hardly be called a solution.
2. The fact that the CJI thinks he delivered a divinely ordained solution to the dispute explains why he has helped reopen the Gyanvapi dispute (and countless other disputes as a result) and is a pointer to the kind of divinely-ordained solutions that will doubtless follow.
3. How could he have asked "the deity" to help find a solution to the dispute when the deity — through his 'next friend' — was a party to the original dispute? Is this not a conflict of interest?
4. The truth is that judges take recourse to this kind of 'divine' rationalising and grandstanding when they know a judgment they have delivered is legally unsound.
5. Judges take an oath to do justice by the laws laid down in the Constitution. They are free to believe in deities or holy books and follow their orders and signs in their personal lives. But when it comes to dispensing justice, no deity can be above the Constitution.
6. India already has a PM who directly communes with God and follows God's will. The country now has a CJI worthy of Modi's own non-biological stature.
7. We thank the CJI for removing the blindfold from not just Lady Justitia but all our eyes.

Kehlani during her recent Tiny Desk concert:
“Free Palestine. Free Congo. Free Sudan. Free Yemen. Free Hawai’i. Free Guam. Beyond a ceasefire, we need an end to the occupation. It’s deeper than this.”
4. The gratuitous and ahistorical comments on varna/caste, first generation/second generation, alternatives to reservation etc were not in issue. They reflect a continuing problem of SC judges pontificating on things outside their institutional competence.
Chandrashekhar Azad articulating in the most simple yet brilliant words why political representation of Muslims is important. Most other ‘liberal’ politicians shy from using the term “Muslim” even in basic conversations. The is rare ideological honesty.
VIDEO | Here's what Advocate Kamini Jaiswal said on new criminal laws coming into effect from today.
"I think it is a disaster. I do not understand who benefits, not the common men, not the lawyers, not the investigating agencies, nobody and I wish the government was taking into account other things, how does it help the unemployment. We are facing much more serious problems. The CrPC was amended in 2013. What are they trying to show? This is just the arrogance of power. What will happen to people who don't know Hindi. The Judges are saying that they will use old terms only. In local courts, local language is used. There will be a delay in justice."
Re NEET: some interesting judicial history. In 2013, by a 2-1 judgment, SC struck down NEET as unconstitutional:

Three years later, with the two judges in the majority retired, the dissenting judge now headed a review bench of five judges.
If I have any confidence in our constitutional courts, Delhi High Court will allow urgent listing in Arvind Kejriwal's matter, stay bail order, & keep extending the stay forever without hearing the matter. Then there will be weekend lectures by CJI on life, liberty and democracy
In its unreasoned stay “order” today, the High Court should have at least clarified which of the following categories Mr Kejriwal belonged to: Tom, Dick, Harry, or Bandicoot.
It's fairly clear that they intend to privatize railways.
First, underfund safety of the trains, and kill large number of poor people.
Then use these deaths to sell the railways to their crony business houses for cheap, who will then hike prices to extract more profit.
Bawling cos he got an exit poll spectacularly wrong!! And anchors pacifying him like he's a baby. Anchors of the same network were gleefully riding bulldozers egging them on as poor muslim's homes were being demolished as they cried. What a bunch of vile clowns.
Under the #GyanvapiMosque, radars have detected four broken pillar bases. Archaeologists have confirmed that the third one resembles the judiciary, the fourth is all but vanished...studies are on.
