The Bolsheviks ended the anti-communist peasant uprising in Tambov with poison gas.

In 1920, farmers revolted against the Bolsheviks who seized their grain and starved them. The regime authorized poison gas against the forests and villages sheltering the rebels.

Very few states have used poison gas against their own people in the 20th century, especially not against the very class their revolution claimed to represent.

They also built concentration camps for the wives and children, threatening to execute them unless their husbands and fathers surrendered.

The uprising ended with tens of thousands of peasants starved, gassed, and shot.
