Island health (esp PH) has entered different dimension; Islanders in need of rescue
Globe and Mail: Health care workers on Vancouver Island advised not to test themselves for COVID
Global News: Northern Vancouver Island physicians call for resignation of region’s top doctor
Some of this bad information was amplified by CBC's Ian Hanomansing, who repeatedly pushed Dr. Bonnie Henry's claims that hand hygiene is more effective than masking against an airborne virus. https://t.co/i2WL5kD3qY
Has Dr. Gustafson resigned yet?
This isn't about policy differences; this is about someone whose mandate is to protect those at-risk but who is instead choosing to place them at even greater risk, needlessly.
It's starting to look like the cruelty is the point.
#Exclusive: Two years ago, Dr. Sanjiv Gandhi never thought he wouldn't be a pediatric heart surgeon.
Now Gandhi alleges a toxic workplace & administrative silencing compromised patient care and drove him from the operating room at BC Children's @TheTyee

This is pretty outrageous- HCW's in BC are being told to NOT test themselves for COVID-19 and therefore do not need to isolate for 5 days.
In a memo to staff, Island Health's Dr. Réka Gustafson says the majority of HCW's should not be tested and discourages them from doing so.
Covid is still disabling and killing people at a rapid clip, but for a year Dr. Gustafson has believed that you need to forget all that "and go back to everything you knew before 2020."
Telling doctors to work sick and to risk infecting colleagues and patients is part of that.
I really need all healthcare workers to know that public health officers have civil immunity. They can’t be sued by patients or their families if this policy causes harm. And the college doesn’t accept complaints against them either. Neither of those 2 things are true for you.
Quick! Everybody!
Dr John "harms of acne" Conly has declared masking doesn't work, but handwashing does!
Godspeed to anyone still following these clowns. Enjoy your forever respiratory illnesses.
@SKGandhiMD@BCGreens We will be live-tweeting our "Covid Reality Check" with Dr. @SKGandhiMD here on this thread starting at 1:30 pm today. Please follow along! #bcpoli
@daka_x@loulou_root@richardzussman Indeed, and many people hadn't even been offered second doses at that point, it was a really reckless and unnecessary move by Henry.
@loulou_root@richardzussman Hinshaw is capable of admitting when she's wrong.
Henry is incapable of doing so, and I actually think that's an important difference.
There was also more access to testing and N95's in Alberta vs BC.
