While people are marveling at the slider take (which I do here) I started marveling at the 0-1 fastball take from Chourio yesterday in my breakdown video on YouTube.

The full at-bats of David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez going back-to-back off Jared Weaver in Game 3 of the 2007 ALDS.
Ended up being a 9-1 win and a 3-game sweep. Exactly 19 years ago today.

Justin Verlander reveals the game that convinced him to stop throwing as hard as he could
“The whole knock on me early in my career was that I threw too many pitches. I’d throw 120 pitches, but I was only going six innings.”
“I had a game in Boston where we really needed me to get deep in the game. Our bullpen was shot. I go out the first couple innings, and I look up and I’ve got sixty-something pitches.”
“To me, the most important thing for that game was to chew innings. I was like, ‘I can’t keep this pace.’ So I ended up slowing myself down. I was throwing fastballs at 89. I threw a changeup in that game at 91 and threw a fastball at 89 in the same game.”
“I just pulled the throttle way back. I was like, ‘Man, here, hit it. Put it in play.’ All of a sudden, I was like, ‘Man, I am really able to hit my spot.’”
“I basically took that mentality and flipped it going into the next season. Let me try starting games like this and then building up as I go. If I get in trouble, I’ve always got it in my back pocket.”
“I always viewed it from the hitter’s perspective as you’re facing three different pitchers in three different at-bats, and they’re progressively getting harder to hit.”
🚨 SAQ - que tipo de treino é esse
Não é tática.
Não é condução com bola.
Não é corrida contínua.
É preparação física específica de futebol:
velocidade, agilidade e rapidez. Isoladas.
### O que é
Circuito segmentado com cones.
Cada faixa trabalha uma qualidade neuromuscular.
Oito blocos:
É a mesma lógica desta série:
primeiro o estímulo isolado.
Depois bola, oposição e contexto.
### Onde isso segura o que já pesquisamos
Controle orientado pede corte e reaceleração.
Sem COD, a leitura certa chega atrasada.
Half-space pede ataque ao espaço no metro certo.
Isso é aceleração de 5 a 15 metros.
Timing de ruptura pede sair do quase parado para a velocidade máxima.
É a partida deitada: recuperação e explosão.
Contrapressão vive em 5 a 6 segundos.
Isso é RSA. Os shuttles treinam exatamente isso.
O fast attack 2v2→3v2 do Dubai FC dura 3 a 6 segundos.

Gillie couldn’t stop LAUGHING after Wallo LOST HIS MIND acting like a 13-time karate BLACK BELT, WHOOPING him, Jojo Dwarf and the whole class while teaching SELF-DEFENSE, only to leave everyone INJURED 😭😭
When David Stearns took over in 2024, the core was:
29-year-old Pete Alonso
30-year-old Francisco Lindor
30-year-old Edwin Díaz
31-year-old Brandon Nimmo
32-year-old Jeff McNeil
The Mets had a terrible farm and an organization that couldn’t develop anyone. There wasn’t even a single starting pitcher in that core.
In 2026, less than three full seasons later, that core is now:
21-year-old A.J. Ewing
23-year-old Carson Benge
24-year-old Nolan McLean
27-year-old Christian Scott
27-year-old Juan Soto
28-year-old Bo Bichette
32-year-old Francisco Lindor
Other than Lindor, the oldest guy in that group is 28. The youngest is 21. When Stearns took over the youngest in that group was 29 years old! Now the organization can actually develop players and has one of the better farm systems in baseball.
Stearns reset a core that made the playoffs twice in six years — ONCE UNDER HIM! Alonso, Nimmo, and McNeil were not even why the Mets made the playoffs in 2024. Instead they were a big reason that team was fighting until the very last day of the season to clinch. Lindor along with the players Stearns put around them carried that team into the playoffs while those other guys all had down years.
Yet fans will still tell you Stearns has done an awful job. Almost every other team in baseball would take him tomorrow. Claiming he has run the Mets into the ground and that he’s a total disaster is dishonest and irrational. Thinking he hasn’t built this roster to be a future consistent contender just means you’re not watching or you’re out of touch. It’s egregious.
Missing the playoffs one year into a core reset is not some unprecedented disaster. Especially when most of the team’s core was either hurt or in the minors during this season other than Bichette, McLean, and Benge. Missing the playoffs happens to a lot of teams when they move on and stop running it back with a stale, aging group and actually start focusing on their future building the next core.
The other option was keeping a group that was only getting older and punting the future. That tradeoff makes no sense. This is the most realistic way to build a World Series contender. Especially one that can compete year after year.
