I have been invited to Kolkata by an organisation called Secular Mission. The organisation is headed by a progressive Muslim, Osman Gani Mallik.

Is the BJP taking me to Kolkata? No.

Is the West Bengal government taking me there? No.

The elected government of West Bengal is only arranging my security. Whenever I visit any state, whichever political party is in power there arranges my security. This is a normal administrative responsibility.

Yet some Left leaders in West Bengal are blaming me for going to Kolkata. They were the ones who drove me out of West Bengal; now, according to them, merely setting foot in the state means that I am a Hindutva supporter, that I belong to the BJP and the RSS.

I have visited Kerala many times at the invitation of the CPI(M) government. The Left leaders there welcomed me, honoured me and arranged Z-plus security for me. Did these Left leaders in Kolkata then abuse me by calling me a “Leftist,” or did they shower me with kisses of approval? They conveniently kept their eyes shut then. Do their eyes ever truly open when it comes to me?

Why are they spreading these lies about my visit to Kolkata? I am returning after 18 years, 8 months and 10 days, and only for two days—yet even that is enough to make them burn with resentment.

The Left Front government drove me out of Kolkata. The Trinamool government that followed did not allow me to enter West Bengal either. Not only that, it stopped the television broadcast of a long-running serial written by me and cancelled my book launch. Did Bengal’s so-called progressives utter a single word in defence of freedom of expression then? No, they did not.

The truth is that many Left leaders cannot tolerate those of us who want to bring Muslim society out of darkness and into the light; who want Muslims to be educated and scientifically minded; who want to free them from religious fanaticism, ignorance and barbarism; who demand equal rights for women and human rights for all; and who want discriminatory Islamic laws to be replaced by modern laws based on equality.

They want Muslim society to remain trapped in the misogynistic, fanatical and intolerant world of fourteen hundred years ago. They regard those who seek reform within Muslim society as enemies. And we all know that they have no hesitation in appeasing Islamic fundamentalists.

That is why my return to West Bengal has provoked so much anger, resentment and false propaganda from them.

Will these Leftists ever learn to be human? How much longer will they hide behind the mask of progressivism while speaking the language of jihadists?

I also see some self-styled Left intellectuals spewing venom against me. Echoing Bangladeshi jihadists, they claim that I do not know how to write literature and that my books are third-rate. By any means possible, they must find something—anything—to hold against me.

Let us assume that they are right: I am not a good writer, and all my books are third-rate. Does that justify putting a price on my head? Does it justify driving me out of my country and banishing me from Bengal altogether? The literary merit of a writer’s work will be judged by readers and by time. But whether the writing is excellent or poor, threatening to kill the writer or forcing the writer into exile can never be acceptable in any civilised society.

Free thought, open-mindedness and tolerance—these self-styled Left intellectuals do not allow any of them to come anywhere near them. My only real fault is this: they believe Islam is a religion of peace; I do not. They cannot accept that the right to criticise Islam is part of freedom of expression. All their liberalism ends at the gates of Islam.

1. In my latest #NationalInterest, I explore 2 aspects to the ongoing churn in national politics. They look contrary, but aren’t. One, the BJP has created a political miracle by making India almost a one-party state despite being short of a Lok Sabha majority. Second, since much of this is being done by destroying regional parties, Congress is the only significant Opposition that remains intact. So, Indian politics has also become a two-party contest.

2. Three questions arise. 1. Why does BJP find Congress such a convenient rival? 2. What does Congress lack that it can’t be a credible challenger? 3. How can Congress pull itself up? The answer to the first is simple. The BJP is propelling itself on 4 engines: Hard Hindutva, harder nationalism, efficient & fair welfare, & massive physical infrastructure visible to all.

3. The Congress doesn’t have a credible counter. If all of what BJP is doing is wrong, as Congress says, what will it do if it came to power? On economy, strategic issues & defence, how will it be different? What’s its vision for an alternative to the BJP? The Congress has to answer these questions first. And then counter the 4 engines we said are powering the BJP railroad.

4. On Hindutva, Congress shouldn’t even try competing. On welfare, it can promise the world. On infrastructure, it will have a problem. So, what’s Congress left with? Nationalism. But how it has abandoned nationalism is the most intriguing aspect of its post-2014 politics. Parts of it might pretend to be like the European Greens, but the real Congress was never a party of bleeding-heart pacifists.

5. It’s the party that defeated & dismembered Pakistan in 1971 & threw them back in 1965. The Congress fought hard against NE insurgencies. It fought back 2 of our bloodiest phases of terrorism & insurgency in Kashmir Valley & Punjab. Even the war with Naga insurgents was fought with the harshest methods under Nehru, who also sent the forces to liberate Goa. So, it’s amazing to see how the original party of hard nationalism has lost its way.

6. Indian nationalism is unique. It emerges from a shared sense of history: Ancient, medieval & modern, freedom movement & the Constitution. The BJP has Hinduised it. That’s where the Congress can find an argument, or product differentiation. But if it’s going to persist with its current approach, insisting that India — and its armed forces — only keep losing to China & Pakistan, nobody is going to be impressed.

There is a big difference between Indian Muslims and Indonesian Muslims.

Indonesia is 90% Muslim country, yet its people proudly acknowledge their Hindu ancestors. Many carry Sanskrit names, and epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata are taught in their schools. They identify themselves as Indonesians first, and Muslims second.

Indian Muslims, on the other hand, tend to resonate more strongly with Arab identity. They often prefer Arabic names and identify as Muslims first, and Indians later.

I believe Indian Muslims should learn from their Indonesian counterparts and reconnect with their Indian-Hindu civilizational roots rather than prioritizing Arab influences.

Among the 61 Indians who wrote to PM Modi urging him to improve relations with Pakistan, one name stands out, A.S Dulat, former RAW chief.

Yes, the same person who took part in Bharat Jodo Yatra supporting Rahul Gandhi.

During his tenure, the Kashmiri Pandit genocide took place. In a recent interview, Dulat justified it by saying that not only Pandits, but even more Muslims were killed.

He also described the execution of Afzal Guru as "unfortunate."

He also helped secure safe passage through Mumbai airport for the son of former ISI chief Asad Durrani, who had been detained over visa violations and document irregularities.

His wife was seen shopping in Dubai on several occasions with Asad Durrani's wife.

During his time as RAW chief, Dulat, along with Farooq Abdullah, arranged a medical college seat for the son of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.

He also co authored a book called the "The Spy Chronicles, RAW, ISI and the Illusion of Peace" with former ISI chief Asad Durrani.

A S Dulat has publicly described the ISI as the world's most powerful intelligence agency and even said that, if given a choice, he would prefer to be head the ISI.

Dulat has repeatedly criticised NSA Ajit Doval, calling him "hawkish" for his approach to China and opposing his doctrine on Kashmir.

Remember what Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat had stated that India faces a two and a half front war. He had defined the "0.5" front as internal security threats and insurgencies within the country........

For decades, India’s self-appointed human-rights industry found endless compassion for Yasin Malik and almost none for Sarla Bhat. You won't even know about her, in all probability, unless your Google her name.

Jammu and Kashmir's State Investigation Agency's chargesheet now names Malik as the mastermind behind the abduction, rape, torture and murder of the 27-year-old Kashmiri Hindu nurse. Investigators say the allegation that she was a police informer was a fabricated excuse for a premeditated assassination.

Salra Bhat's bullet-riddled body was dumped on a roadside. Allegations of torture and sexual assault followed. Her family says that after performing her last rites, their home was attacked and a mob descended on the cremation ground when they returned to collect her ashes.

This was never merely one murder. It was terror designed to break an entire community, frighten Kashmiri Pandits into abandoning their homeland and ensure that even their dead were denied dignity.

Justice after 36 years is painfully late. But the greater obscenity is that those accused of engineering this terror were sanitised for decades as “separatists”, photographed with ex-prime ministers and marketed to India as voices of peace.
