Hi my name is Kevin and I’m a golf addict.
I started another page to only talk golf. Cause it’s all I want to do, watch or think about now. Officially caught the bug.
I’m 41, and recently retired after a nice 7 year run founding a software company in 2017 and selling it in 2024.
I picked up golf in mid June 2025 to A) Take on a new athletic and mental challenge, B) Enable me to spend more time with my friends that golf, and C) Go see amazing places with friends and family though the sport.
As of this post, I’ve been grinding for about 3 months and played 6 rounds (18 twice and 9 four times. Kept score 3 times).
I’ll share my experience and perspective as a newbie and hope to hear yours too since this sport can be intimidating and golfers can be a-holes to newbies sometimes 😬.
I watched. Read many comments.
First, have to have storylines and showcase player personalities. Full Swing turned me into an all out golf junkie, because I feel like I know some of the players.
Second, just can’t compete with football in America. I don’t watch but many do.
Sadly, the loudest Solheim Cup in history didn’t reverberate across the Atlantic. The event’s TV ratings in the U.S. were nothing short of a gut-punch to those who observed its success on the ground.
Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal shared the startling numbers on X: 179,000 watched on Golf Channel Saturday and, despite an 8-8 score heading into singles, viewership dropped to 170,000 on Sunday, when Europe came out on top.
To put that in perspective, consider that three years ago when the event was held in Spain, Sunday’s viewership numbers on Golf Channel were 277,000.
That’s a 39 percent drop in viewership.
In 2015, the last time the U.S. won on foreign soil, Golf Channel coverage averaged 227,000 viewers.

@Top100Rick@JacksonTweetin This is the hardest thing to comprehend as a new golfer. Every coach saying to not swing as hard but still have to eventually to get distance.
@BigSwingTempo The advice of just get there a lot of times is great and most likely the only answer but I’m more interested in how to not buckle the first couple times I’m close to breaking 95/90. I think it’s just not neeeeeding it on an identity level, and just wanting it really badly ha
Just played a solo round of 9 in exactly 1 hr and 30 min. It was lovely.
Played 2-3 balls per hole.
I also learn so much more when I can walk and think about my shot, what went well, what didn’t. Complete lock in.
@BigSwingTempo@Motivationburnz Maybe the guy is a freak of nature but I just find it hard to believe with zero prior experience 🤨. Maybe I’m bitter cause I’m still 95-110
@SolheimCupUSA Oh ok, I dig this! Just tuned in today and was like damn, are they having any fun at this tournament or showing any emotion? This is great.
