White Shelby Police Officer Karson Hyder (22) was caught on doorbell camera repeatedly punching a Black woman, Cherrie Moore (34), in the head and face with closed fists while she was on the ground.
Moore was in the middle of a mental health crisis (bipolar schizophrenia, off her medication) when this happened on May 29, 2026, in Shelby, North Carolina. A second officer had to intervene and stop him.
Hyder was fired the very next day. He has now been charged with assault inflicting serious injury. Moore suffered a possible broken nose, black eyes, busted lip, and more. Some of her charges were dropped. Ben Crump is representing her family.
