Had a proud advisor moment as @gonfatee22 & @SouzaMariaCarol shared about their research projects and how we can help manage weeds more economically at a Cargill RegenConnect event. We discussed precision tech, generic products, & using more "tools in the toolbox." #PUweeds
Part 2 of our @INSoybean cover crop, planting date, & targeted spray project. Cereal rye grew >20" in 2 weeks, & today we terminated the treatments where soybean is VE/VC. Another planting date to go, & then we'll get to the fun of targeted POST applications! #PUweeds@PurdueAg
Welcome to the EAVision J150 to our #PUweeds spray drone fleet! Thank you to @AgriSprayDrones for partnering with us, & be on the lookout for some exciting results.

Just wanted to give a HUGE shot out to this crew (& @leonard_piveta not pictured). Almost every day this week has been double digit+ hours to get trials out, but they've handled it like pros! Yesterday included spray drones, @solinftec, and remote sensing research. #PUweeds
I recently discussed the importance of #SprayerSetup on @WarAgainstWeeds and @PenneyPodcast. Yesterday, we put out a trial in SE IN looking at this problem with #PWM sprayers. Do low (<40%) duty cycles result in poor deposition and efficacy? Stay tuned for results! #PUweeds
The next few weeks will present an interesting mix of IN weed problems. #Waterhemp was rampant before this cool down, now we're in prime #GiantRagweed germination temps. But as soon as it warms up again, soil temps are already high enough for WH to explode again. #PUweeds
🎶Calibrate, good times, c'mon!🎶 Calibration is important for all sprayers, even those that are flow controlled. Rather than adjusting pressure or speed though, we need to change the flow meter calibration number directly (pictured) or by entering measured output. #PUweeds
Residuals in early-planted #INsoy have been a🔥topic: https://t.co/lY1jLdIrEW.
In general, cool conditions⬆️crop injury risk & herbicide selection may shift with more early emerging species (like ragweed or horseweed). BUT residuals are still important to stay ahead! #PUweeds
Since parts of Indiana have a freeze warning for this weekend, here's an article about burndowns in cool temps we had from a few weeks ago: https://t.co/6FrOe5PmDj.
TLDR: Expect reduced control from any herbicide apps immediately before and after a frost. #PUweeds@PurdueAg
The #PUweeds team has soybean in the ground! Thanks to the crew for getting a couple of our early planting dates in yesterday. Collab research here with @WiscWeeds exploring planting date, soy row width, & cereal rye for #waterhemp suppression. Thank you to @ncipmc for funding!
Check out this fun find (for a nozzle head like myself at least)... Sprayer had a plugged nozzle when a fall residual was applied; left perfect weedy strips throughout the field, even at the corners!
Check & clean those nozzles; the #LittleThings matter! #PUweeds@PurdueAg
I’m excited to launch @croptoxcare , my new program at Purdue University focused on crops and mycotoxins. 🌽🔬 Through research and extension, our goal is to provide practical, science-based solutions that help farmers protect grain quality and minimize mycotoxin risks.
🚨 New week, new insights!
We’re kicking off 2026 with the first Indiana Corn Research & Update of the year, featuring planting considerations for the upcoming season, nitrogen & sulfur interactions in corn, and guidance on burndown herbicide timing.

Congratulations to Jeanine Arana, recipient of the 2026 College of Agriculture Graduate Student Mentoring Award!
She has also been nominated for the University‑level Graduate Student Mentoring Award, recognizing her outstanding commitment to mentorship.
Well deserved!
NCWSS 80th Annual Meeting was a huge success and great opportunity for networking and learning innovation in weed science. I had a good time! #NCWSS#WeedScience#Purdue
