@LeahLaing4 Totally agree with you and Mike and that story tellers were the beginning and have developed into storytellers telling their story on paper. Students should continue to express/organize their ideas verbally so they can put it in print.

@J_Sanchez_SD I agree Joe some students are more comfortable expressing themselves through writing vs speaking and they should be given the opportunity to express themselves through any outlet that is safe for them.

Just like in reading where students need to read more to get better in their reading skills, the same goes for writing. Students need to practice more writing in the different styles and have the availability to choose and be creative.

Descriptive narratives give students the ability to be creative in their writing and can be fictional and will allow them to embellish it if they want.

@MikeBir54895524 I also think the focus on a feedback of 1 positive thing and 1 thing you can work on is a great idea and motivator for the student. They can feel confident or productive in their writing be more acceptable of what they need to improve on and work on that.

I realized that we may think that we are incorporating enough writing throughout our day. We really have to be intentional and pay attention to what we assign sand how we incorporate lessons to ensure the students get enough writing in

Phonics!! I can’t express how important phonics is to writing. Many struggling writers are struggling readers and they have that gap in phonics.
