I did not get into medical school because of the colour of my skin nor any presumptions that I needed to be prioritized entry to make up for the history of disadvantages and discrimination faced by my black predecessors.
I got in because I worked my butt off to get the grades and performed well at the interview. Med school was pretty tough and got out the otherside through determination, grit and the grace of God to help me endure on days I wanted to quit.
December 2012, the day I triumphed amidst the halls of academia, celebrating my graduation from medical school. Nestled beside my proud parents, my beaming smile conceals a tale of relentless perseverance leading to an awe-inspiring victory.
I'm so grateful to my parents for their sacrifices and to Jesus for keeping me thus far.
