Yup, good take.
Anyone (insurance agents included) who touts whole life as an equivalent “investment” or an “investment” at all is wrong.
Peeling back the onion…
Whole life is not the investment vehicle.
However, the infinite banking crowd will advocate instead that whole life is the investment conduit, not the investment itself…
It really breaks down to 2 principles:
1. Buy term, and better allocate the “savings” or excess cash
2. Buy whole life, and save up for your legacy
The core concept that you’re hitting on is: idle cash loses to invested capital.
However, the irony: For the term life + invest crowd…
the assumption is that you will successfully build a nest egg. The real irony, at that point, is whole life becomes the hands down best way to transfer that wealth to the next generation (Rockefeller strategy)
Term = by far the best value per dollar. Not even close.
Term Life Counter argument = your renting a policy, when the term ends, you paid all those year and get nothing.
Whole Life = “overpaying” for a death benefit. But get: tax free growth, dividends, tax free loan against cash value. Plus, a guaranteed death benefit.
Term is cheap because the insurance companies are betting you won’t die (law of large numbers), ie the “rent” analogy.
On the other hand, Whole Life is a contract to pay out, so… you pay more… for sure.
Why is it more?
The cost to insure you increases as you age. Level term whole life calculates that into your early years, so you pay “way more” early on, to counter act the latter years (PS I think of this like front-loaded loan amortization, which to your point… not always in your favor)
On the contrary… I have a 70 year old now who termed our (paid full 20 year term)… his perspective, he would pay an arm and a leg now to still have a death benefit for his grandkids.
Different strokes for different folks.
Spoke with a 70y/o today seeking life insurance for him and his wife…
The most interesting part of the convo:
He and his wife both had term polices at one point for 15/20 years.
They paid them faithfully and completed their term.
Interesting perspective as now in their later years, they would really value a policy to pass along money to their grandkids.
Usually conversations around term are from the benefits on the front end (high death benefit, low premium)… but the back end perspective is super valuable.
Biggest news on the internet today, by a mile.
This is not about ANOTHER monetization strategy…
This is a manifesto on the future of internet payments.
The headline: the internet is moving towards “Agent-first” meaning AI agents become the dominant internet users, not humans.
The thesis: agents will carry wallets, with purchase power on behalf of their administrator.
And what is “free” today (content, data) is under monetized, especially in the context of agents using that on your behalf for production output
It’s a true brain-bending concept, but points towards a common thread: the face of the workplace and daily internet use will soon look completely different.
Key questions that will be answered and normalized:
How much spending authority will agents have on your behalf?
How will agents efficiently author and allocate budgets for highest use consumption ?
The internet will become inherently gated in a pay-to-play which will shift commoditized power dynamics.
A common theme today: if access to information is commoditized via AI, how do you create an edge?
Here’s a direct answer and assault to the de-commoditization of information, shifting us back towards pre-AI strongholds.

@CodeByNZ Via agents.
Administrators will monetize agents in their behalf.
Content becomes gated, monetized, pay to play.
Different playing field.
However, transactions are inherently human. So there are tiers and stages to this.

The core problem with AI + Capitalism = information commoditization. If everyone can use the same info, how do you create an edge. This has been the primary driver behind talks about universal income, etc. Cloudflare’s approach is a DIRECT assault on this, pushing backs towards gating and pay-to-play, for better or worse, this is the framework that we are use to operating in

We're opening the waitlist for our Monetization Gateway, which will allow you to charge for any web page, dataset, API, or MCP tool behind Cloudflare. The charges will settle in stablecoins over the x402 open protocol. https://t.co/pvICtEIixj
