Education that responds to the challenges of today and prepares our youth for the 21st Century must not only be knowledge-based but also value-driven for the holistic transformation of the learner.
Yesterday, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Migos Ogamba, held a meeting with the leadership of the Global Peace Foundation, to discuss opportunities for working together in promoting holistic education as we continue the roll out of Competency-Based Education.
Youth leadership is not simply about giving young people a seat at the table, it is about trusting their voices, valuing their lived experiences, and creating space for them to shape the decisions that define their future.

Young people must move from being consumers to creators and owners of technology.
Build solutions for our challenges, turn them into scalable enterprises and take them from Kenya to Africa and the world.

The Commission engaged the senior management of P.C. Kinyanjui Technical Training Institute in a capacity-building session on gender and inclusivity, bringing institutional leadership into a practical conversation on identifying and addressing barriers to equal participation.
The session covered gender concepts and perspectives, gender mainstreaming, gender-based violence and unconscious bias, workplace gender policies and compliance, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), disability inclusion, and inclusive recruitment, retention and career development.
The focus is important because decisions made within training institutions can shape who gets opportunities, who feels safe and included, who progresses through training and who ultimately makes the transition into employment. NGEC’s Model Gender Mainstreaming Policy for the TVET sector identifies barriers including gender stereotypes, discrimination, financial constraints, unfriendly training environments, information gaps and limited prospects for decent work, and calls for stronger institutional capacity to address them.
The engagement therefore goes beyond sensitisation. It is about strengthening the capacity of institutional leaders to mainstream gender and inclusion in policies, programmes, workplace practices and decision-making, while creating environments in which women, men, persons with disabilities and other Special Interest Groups can participate and benefit equitably.
For the Commission, inclusive skills development is about more than access to training—it is about ensuring that every learner and staff member has a fair opportunity to participate, progress and realise their potential.
When leadership understands inclusion, institutions are better positioned to make equality part of everyday practice.
