I'm the *other* Sue Miller. Just a Jesus-loving woman from WI with an interest in tech, scifi, fantasy and other geeky things. Oh, and cats. She/her 5w6
@GeecheeThreat@pauljpastor From memory - it is sweet but that could be how my dad made it. It was good - a delicate, floral (but not hibiscus-y) flavor. My husband's grandmother also made dandelion wine. Hers was strong enough to be "medicinal."
@pauljpastor Growing up we had a 10 acre horse pasture that was full of beautiful, well-fertilized dandelions. My dad and I would pick buckets of blossoms for dandelion wine. He also paid me a penny a root to dig thistles in that same pasture. Got as much as $3 in a day.
@courtneyellis My observation is that the fastest by far is a toddler after being asked, "What did you put in your month?" They are also the *loudest* mammal after being caught with said object. Closely followed by the family dog after being told "Drop it."
@pauljpastor I loved this podcast, your poetry, and the story of Fluffy. (I wish you could post pictures. I picture a little blimp of a jay.) Corvids are such fun birds and a real favorite of mine in spite of their quirks.
@courtneyellis Our church is currently doing a sermon series called "Consider the Birds." Thus far we've heard about ravens, doves, and quail. I love that we're learning to use birds as a reminder of various aspects of God and humanity. So, preach the birds! They're interesting and fun. :)
@courtneyellis This brings tears to my eyes. As a recent dropout of a fundamental Christian no-women-pastors church I've been struck by how much I was missing. My current church ELCA has pastors, men and women, who share the gospel with their whole hearts and I am blessed by their ministry.
@courtneyellis My mom LOVES butter. Real butter. When I was a kid we churned butter from cream skimmed from raw milk (shhh, don't tell) and she would take about 20 taste tests to "get the salt just right." Weirdly, we still cooked with margarine. Butter was for eating. Butter *is* for eating :)
@thomaslhorrocks@ou_sas My old church also used only GF bread in order for everyone to participate equally. They ended up creating their own recipe of a sweetened, unleavened, sheet that they would break at the beginning of Communion. I felt seen and cared for in that process.
@thomaslhorrocks After reading an article about the significance of doing nothing and receiving the gift of the body and blood of Christ, I desire the passive, open hands form of receiving the bread. Maybe someday.
@thomaslhorrocks Our church uses a homemade sourdough that someone has kept going for more than 30 years. I can't have it because I'm gluten free. We have GF crackers so I can take communion. What I can't do is *receive* the bread. They keep the GF in a dish and I have to pick my piece.
Shoutout to David K @smarttoyota for absolutely the best customer service I think I've ever received getting my car serviced. (and I'm old so that's saying something) Thank you! @Toyota you're well represented at my local dealership.
