A BJP-NTK alliance could solve all the problems – Annamalai knows it well!

Background!

A big section of BJP support base is against having an alliance with ADMK with EPS being the face of the alliance and its CM candidate and BJP playing second fiddle. The popular opinion is that EPS will use BJP, get a lifeline ditch BJP in 2029. This theory indeed has merit because of the track record of EPS being a backstabber. Even I endorse this concerned raised by many BJP supporters especially, after there were rumors that ADMK is putting pressure on BJP to replace Annamalai as the TN BJP president.

The problem!

Annamalai had promised himself that he wouldn’t wear his footwear till DMK is unseated. Now the problem is with the current NDA which has 18% vote share it will be impossible to defeat DMK in 2026. A BJP-ADMK alliance may not work because of lack of chemistry between cadre and supporters on both sides because of the bitter past both the sides have faced over the last 2-3 years.

So, what could be the solution?

Personally, I would suggest the current NDA (BJP+PMK+TTV+TMC+OPS+ small parties) to work out an alliance with Seeman’s NTK. Currently NDA sits on 18% and with Seeman’s 8%, the alliance will be arithmetically very strong on 26% and can pose a serious threat to both the DMK and ADMK fronts.

Reasons why I am suggesting this alliance!

Fresh alliance – Sometimes fresh alliances can work wonders compared to tried and tested ones that suffer from ego tussles. Let me share two classic examples. 1) The DMK-TMC (newly born Moopanar party) alliance swept the 1996 polls and defeated a very strong ADMK-Congress alliance. 2) An ADMK-Vijayakanth alliance swept the 2011 elections and pushed DMK to 3rdposition. I firmly believe BJP-NTK alliance will work wonders in 2026.

No allegations of corruption – Everyone knows both DMK and ADMK are equally corrupt and after EPS took over, even ADMK has become as anti-national as DMK hobnobbing with groups like SDPI. Both BJP and NTK have never been in power in TN and hence there are no corruption charges on both the parties. I believe this will cut ice with the section of the electorate that want to see a fresh and alternate brand of politics in Tamil Nadu.

Commonalities – There are several commonalities between both the parties. Both are fiercely anti-DMK, both are fiercely – anti-EVR, both has TN’s interest at heart, both have anti-ADMK too to some extent. Moreover, lately, you may have seen that there is a natural bonhomie and camaraderie between Annamalai and Seeman. Such factors will help this front perform better. Annamalai has the backing of 85% of Brahmins and Seeman has off late, spoken well about Brahmins. Even Gurumurthy congratulated Seeman during the 2025 Thuglak anniversary for his stand on EVR.

Charismatic leaders – Both Seeman and Annamalai are charismatic leaders and powerful orators. Seeman can speak stupendously on why DMK should be eradicated from the political scene and Annamalai can speak immaculately with data and facts. Annamalai and Seeman will complement each other. Annamalai and Seeman sharing a stage and ripping apart both DMK and ADMK could be electrifying.

Challenges ahead!

Convincing voters on the need for this alliance – Both the parties differ on certain issues. NTK is a about Tamil nationalism and BJP is about Hindu nationalism. But BJP has had some strange and interesting alliances in the past and has been fairly successful such as with PDP in Kashmir and DMK in Tamil Nadu. Hence two ideologically different parties coming together to defeat common enemies should not be a problem to a voter who abhors those enemies (DMK and ADMK)

How will the alliance work – I feel PM Modi and Amit Shah should announce Seeman as the CM candidate (the eldest leader in the alliance). I am told that this proposal was pitched to Seeman and he agreed to an alliance with BJP. Dr Anbumani and Annamalai can be Deputy CMs holding Health and Home portfolios respectively. Senior leaders from all the alliance partners can be accommodated in the cabinet. This government can function like the NDA led by Vajpayee which too had ideologically different parties in a coalition government.

Will NTK behave well - Everyone’s concern is that Seeman has secessionist and separatist tendencies. But those tendencies are vocal because NTK is currently a letter pad party. Once they become part of the electoral process and have representation in the government, they should start behaving well otherwise they can be booked under NSA. If you recall, DMK was much worse in the 60s but once they came to power they started toeing the line of the central government. The rest is history with DMK forging an alliance with BJP.

What is Annamalai’s take on this?

If you watch this clip carefully, Annamalai says, "he has shared accurate data and report of what is happening on the ground to the central leadership". If my understanding is right, he would have proposed two alliance options to Amit Shah. 1) an alliance with ADMK without EPS and 2) an alliance between current NDA and Seeman. I am also told that Annamalai has a detailed report of data that shows that a BJP-NTK alliance will perform better than a BJP-ADMK alliance.

Conclusions!

I know a section of my friends from BJP will be unhappy to read this. But I am trying to be strategic and not emotional. For me DMK should be ousted just not from power but from politics itself. Till Jayalalitha was alive, I supported and voted for ADMK. But once EPS took over, ADMK is just another DMK.

A BJP NTK electoral understanding in my opinion will solve all the problems and give people like me a meaningful alliance to support and vote for. If this alliance materializes, I am willing to campaign in whatever way possible to ensure we are freed up from the clutches of the Dravidian parties.

Anti-DMK is in my blood, and I have also started hating ADMK equally!

Between ADMK and NTK, NTK to me is the lesser evil!
