So, Jasper, the very best dog in the world died suddenly but peacefully yesterday in the garden at Gormley Towers. He was simply a dote and we're going to miss him so much. @Gormflake
So, I came across this at a service station on M6. Its an air vacuum system. I worked on this 20 years ago but never seen one irl. The lid has to be tightly sealed to work. It's a propelair toilet.
@mishwoz @CathNoakes @BenJonesIEQ@moog77@macroliter@Gormflake@REHVAHVAC But sadly many high risk toilets don’t have lids…
(Thinking a big, modern London office block I used to work in, my local NHS hospital…)
Wouldn’t cost much to retrofit though.
@CathNoakes @moog77@macroliter Yes, the problem is a moving one. Empty traps provide a pathway but will disappear when used. In over 20 years working in building drainage every building has had an empty trap somewhere. What we do know is that they provide an excellent pathway.
@CathNoakes The two variables I observed were strength of line and time to appear it went from 3 seconds to 5 minutes to 15 minutes to no line from day 10 to 15 or there abouts. Oh btw it also became a bit of an obsession!
Excellent thread on the ongoing Covid pandemic. For those thinking this is just a cold-like illness please read. I can personally attest that it is not like a cold!
🧵THREAD on why covid was and remains a more serious threat than flu for society.
Based mainly (but not only) on the most recent ONS report on deaths from Covid vs those from flu and/or pneumonia 1/7

Latest hospitalisation data from Gauteng does show quite a large increase in hospital admissions due to Covid (most recent week incomplete). Now almost 5x increase over 2 weeks from 136 -> 647.

Breaking new ground in Covid research, scientists @heriotwattuni detect viral RNA using bioaerosol sampling methods within a building’s sanitary plumbing system. Download the report hot off the press @ https://t.co/LgyLfqK5Ie #COVIDPoops19
We've captured viral RNA in aerosols/droplets generated in building sanitary plumbing systems as a means of assessing disease prevalence in buildings. Check out the report from @CREW_waters https://t.co/H8JGGqv38S @thomasaspray#SARSCoV2#COVID19

This is an interesting study from v. Good team. A lot depends on infectious dose in this case (and others) if infectious dose is low and env concentrations are low and sampling is difficult are PCR sensitive enough? Sampling and detection work v. Important.
In a home with infected adult and child, virus was measured in floor dust and HVAC filter, implying average airborne concentration of ~70 gene copies/m3. 46% of surfaces positive. https://t.co/DEvlVUYFR9 Maestre et al. with @IAQinGWN Kinney
