#CharlesDarwin died #OTD in 1882. His family had planned to bury him in Downe village, but friends started a lobbying campaign to give him the honor of burial inside @wabbey. A few days later, Darwin was laid to rest in England’s most revered church near Herschel and Newton.

In 1918, on this day, the Parliament (Qualification of Women) Act was passed. At 27 words, it is the shortest UK statute, but it was extremely important: it gave women over 21 the right to stand for election as a Member of Parliament.
