‼️ BREAKING: xAI's Grok Build CLI was uploading entire Git repositories to a Google Cloud bucket, private codebases and unredacted secrets included. The uploads quietly stopped via a hidden server-side flag, and xAI still has not said a word about scope, retention, or deletion.

The scale is staggering. On a 12 GB test repo, 5.1 GB flew out the door to xAI's grok-code-session-traces bucket while the actual coding task needed just 192 KB. The tool grabbed whatever repository it ran in, not the files it needed.

The fix arrived as a hidden flag, disable_codebase_upload: true, a day after a researcher's wire-level analysis. The "Improve the model" opt-out never stopped the uploads.

Still no advisory, no scope, no word on whether already-uploaded code gets deleted. For anyone pointing AI coding agents at proprietary code, what crosses the wire matters more than what the settings page says.

On the other side, launch new and deploying at scale skips all of that and it sounds great. "1.3 billion people, biggest in the world" Aadhaar, COVID vaccine, DigiLocker, demonetization, next scheme. I agree. 2011–2014 was probably India’s last great mass emotional protest as a people’s moment. Just pure rage because that level of corruption exposure was new and it hit every working Indian same way.

We got to street and we protested for a change? Well govt changed. Moreover we got a common man rising out of protest and starting a new party. Things looked hopeful

Now 12-13 years later. the party that won is doing what parties do. The “common man” party that was supposed to fix it from inside? Got comfortable inside it.

Imo ordinary citizen in India venerate powerful individuals not cuz they admire them. They do it because the system has made them dependent on them.

When basic rights be it food, road, water, electricity, security or opportunity has been repackaged as favors for decades they start trusting the powerful individuals more than the institution

allotment softwares run on database tables with strict rules i.e. candidate preferences, available seats, geography... Everything is pressure tested and validated.

A real bug would mess up batches and show obvious patterns. Not one clean outlier for a single login. 100% this kid or his family or anyone known fucked around with access.
