I get yelled at for saying this but children enjoy being challenged and it's good for them to read books that are a bit difficult. In my experience, adults are the ones trying to keep them from classics while the kids are aching to read Dracula, Jane Austen and Jane Eyre.

@iconawrites Just why do I have a hunch they're Americans? They would probably have a heart attack watching a movie by Pedro Almodóvar or realising that a Norwegian folk tale includes a troll committing suicide by stabbing themself in the stomach. 🤦‍♀️

@iconawrites Mine would have died too, and what on Earth is the thing about having tons of extra-curricular activities, so the kids don't have much free time? The only extra thing I had was flute practice (classically trained), and I didn't do any sports as I hated it.

@DominicSelwood The colour makes the statues and such stand out a lot more too. That said, it's not "only" in such places where "everything" is white - what about all those bland white apartments and houses? I'm basically grateful I've painted most of the rooms in my own house.
