Because these type of things are always civil matters if they ever do make it to a court room. Not criminal. Soft paywalls are very grey area. They need to fix their systems if they care that much.

As far as I know only big media corporations use this crap method instead of creating separate indexable pages for the articles.

@_SimonSchueller @IrreverentDave @t3dotgg This is a case where massive news corporations got lazy with their paywall designs and allowed search engines free access to index articles. Instead of creating a indexable companion page to index like Netflix does. So the site just mimicked a search engine to get you in.

@PeteCapeCod @t3dotgg No one stole ad money. It was a site that bypassed terribly designed news paywalls that allow search engines free access, so the site just mimicked a search engine. Paywalling ad riddled, error filled, biased, garbage news articles is the real crime here.

@t3dotgg The site may have broke Vercel’s TOS but not any laws. You can’t steal what is freely available. If it’s illegal Google and Microsoft would be breaking the law. Since the site uses the same method they do to index the sites. Maybe these companies should create real paywalls.
