A recently released Justice Department memo questions decades of protections for Americans with disabilities. The DOJ says states aren’t required to provide home and community-based services that have long kept disabled Americans out of institutions, if they would benefit from these other services.
It’s the latest effort by the Trump administration to shift longstanding practices for the disability community.

Ro Khanna: “There needs to be accountability for Elon Musk. They’re celebrating that he created 4,400 millionaires, but they don’t talk about the 4.5M children around the world who he possibly sentenced to death by dismantling USAID. He needs to answer for that. He needs to be subpoenaed, he needs to face investigation”

Republicans looked the country in the eye and made a promise. When they rewrote the food stamp program last year, they said children would not be touched.
Pregnant women would not be touched.
Families with young kids would not be touched. They said it on the House floor, on the record, in front of everyone.
A year later we know the truth.
More than 776,000 children have been cut off from food assistance. In the states that track participation by age, kids make up nearly half of everyone who lost benefits.
These are kids who went to bed hungry because a politician wanted a talking point.
We must be a country that feeds its children. We used to believe that was the bare minimum. Take care of the kid who is hungry through no fault of their own.
The people who broke that promise should have to answer for it, and in November they will.

Lisbon Valley, Utah. North of Bears Ears is to be opened for uranium mining.
Still scarred from the last uranium boom, the one the EPA hasn't even finished cleaning up.
This week, the federal government decided to do it again.
The whole approval took 11 days. Tribes got a 7-day window to respond, take it or leave it.
One leader called it outrageous and indefensible. A Canadian company gets to mine it, royalty free, under a law from 1872.
That law lets companies pull minerals off federal land without paying the public a dime in royalties, a rule written for pickaxes and mules, still running the uranium industry today.
Here's the part most people will miss: the general public didn't get a say at all this time, the emergency order waived that requirement completely.
Tribal nations are legally different. The government owes them direct, government to government consultation because of treaty and trust obligations going back generations. That legal requirement still applied here. It just got squeezed into 7 days.
Who decided 7 days was enough to weigh in on land that's been theirs for generations?

A Connecticut mother is suing the federal government after masked, armed ICE agents surrounded her vehicle while she was taking her children to school, removed and handcuffed her without displaying a warrant, and abducted her without properly confirming that the children had a caretaker.
Nancy Martinez was deported to Mexico and her children (American citizens, ages 8 and 13) remained in New Haven without their mother.
According to the complaint, her daughter has assumed substantial responsibility for her younger brother, who has developmental disabilities, and both children have experienced continuing psychological and educational harm.
The allegations in this lawsuit are appalling.
None of us are safer because of this cruelty.
Separating families and traumatizing children is disgusting. I'm glad she's suing and standing up for her family because if these fascists get away with doing this to immigrants, you better believe they're gonna come for US citizens next.
These fascist experiments brutalizing immigrants are meant to test the waters of what they can get away with. If Americans don't stand up against this, it'll be the Japanese internment camps all over again, but for suspected political dissidents, and for anyone who dares to criticize the rich and powerful.
Supporting this behavior while pretending you're a "patriot" or that you're "protecting kids" are characteristics of a very violent and manipulative psychopathy that should never be normalized.
How can any true, God-fearing, Christian conservatives ever support something that is so incongruent to their faith? It's so messed up.
Dieghard MAGAt Craig Scott Valdez is a 36-year-old former Alaska GOP legislative staffer was arrested by the FBI in February 2026 on federal child sex trafficking and exploitation charges.
Valdez served as the chief of staff to Republican state Senator George Rauscher. He had worked in Rauscher's office since 2021 before being arrested at the Juneau airport
A federal grand jury indicted Valdez on four counts, including sex trafficking of children, sexual exploitation of children, coercion and enticement of children, and creating child sexual abuse material.
Federal prosecutors claim Valdez used Snapchat to groom, entice, and exploit juvenile females in Alaska. In one documented incident from October 2025, he allegedly picked up a minor from her family's home and took her to his house for sexual exploitation.
Florida’s shame: It is outrageous that nothing has changed at this Florida women’s prison since my 2015 investigation. We treat animals better than these women. It is truly cruel and unusual punishment. 😢
Wait. So Trump’s Iran deal is now being negotiated by his buddy Steve Witkoff, a billionaire real estate developer, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner?
Not a seasoned career diplomat or nuclear expert in sight.
🚩 Trump is desperately making a bad deal because of oil. At the G7, he admitted we’d “run out of reserves in about four weeks.”
This morning I read that he has scaffolding on the front porch to do something to the columns. I saw the scaffolding, but I can't get confirmation about the proposed work. He was looking at the columns for a very long time a few weeks ago and said they are below his standards.
Diana Degette is corrupt and arrogant. She treats her seat for granted and gets mad that it’s been decades since someone dared to disagree with her.
We’re going to help @MelatKirosCO win her primary and kick AIPAC’s ass once and for all. #CO01
