Its no longer news that gear problem is on the increase now. Most of them are caused by negligence while majority is caused by wrong use and parking of vehicles.

Most car owners up to 80% in this country dont have functional hand brakes/ park brakes. Most of them think once you park and engage the 'P' the vehicle has been locked from moving. No,doing this without the hand brake on is puting so much pressure on the PARKING PAWL of the gear.

Parking Pawl is a device like pin that locks the transmission output shaft of the transmission and drive wheels of the vehicle from moving.
If a vehicle rolls some inches front or backwards freely after shifting into "P" then your parking pawl is broken or badly worn out.
Parking on a sloppy surface without engaging the hand brake puts excessive stress on the transmission and that is very dangerous to the gear. This is why most times when you want to shift your gear out of "P" you hear a clunk sound. That sound is your parking pawl trying to forcefully move against the transmission output shaft or out of park because the whole weight of the car is already resting on it, so imagine the effect when you have a heavy vehicle.

Automatic gear arrangement use to be P-R-N-D.
Some people shift to "P" first then engage the hand/parking brake while some engage the hand/parking brake first then shift to "P".
Well, no much difference when parked on a level surface but there's big difference when parked on a sloppy surface.
Best way to go is:

- Bring the car to a stop
- engage the parking brake
- shift the gear to 'N' then 'P'
With this the weight of the vehicle will rest on the parking brakes instead of the parking pawl and putting pressure on the gear.

- excessive stress on the gear
- vehicle keeps rolling after parking
- clunky sound when engaging from 'P' to 'R' or 'D'
- in event of broken pawl the piece can jam up crucial part of the transmission

Then for people driving manual, parking the vehicle on gear 1 is not a good thing to do.
You are putting so much pressure on the gear. Fix your hand brakes and use it for parking.
Gears are very costly now, take good care of yours.

You're complaining your car is malfunctioning, misfiring and consuing more fuel but your air filter is in this condition. That is car abuse.
How can you drive a car for 10 years with same air filter but you change your underwears everyday.
Some people don't even know where this is licated in their vehicle talk more knowing the condition.

Once i notice this condition of filter in anybody's car i start avoiding such person because such person is capable of doing anything.
If you want to know how you make the car suffere log into the ECU while the engine is on and read the stichometry values.
An engine that suppose run smoothly on 14.5 : 1 you carelessly suffocate it down as low as 6.3 : 1 and still have the mind to complain of poor engine performance, your just joking, keep playing.
Anyway na those kind people i dey like collect better money from before bringing the vehicle back to its normal condition again.

Please things are hard now, vehicle are very costly now, try and maintain the one you have.

Before you complain that any car is expensive first find out why.
Car dealers and importers are finding it real hard these days.
Are you aware that customs have increased duty up to 5 times this year (2024) alone, i mean from January- February?
Customs on their own are even complaining because no much goods coming in again

Below are the new cost of clearing some of the most common cars we use here and as am writing the prices may have changed again.

1. 2019 Toyota RAV4 = N9,570,000

2. 2004 - 2014 Toyota RAV4 = N4,050,000

3. 2012 Toyota Tundra = N2.3M

4. 2005 - 2015 Toyota Camry = N3,450,000

5. 2008 - 2014 Honda Accord = N3,750,000

6. 2010 Mercedes Benz C300 = N6.9M

7. 2005 - 2014 Toyota Corolla = N3M

8. 2010 Toyota Tacoma = N1.9M

9. 2010 Mazda CX-7 = N4.2M

10. 2005 - 2014 highlander = N5.3M

11. 2016 Highlander = N7,150,000

12. 2007 - 2013 Avalon = N5.5M

13. 2008 Lexus ES350 = N6,050,000

14. 2009 Lexus RX 350 = N6.7M

NB: The above prices are for clearing alone not cost of buying and shipping the car from USA.

Now lets do more calculations.
If your to import a 2005 corolla into Nigeria now with dollar rate of $1 - N1,6000

Clearing = N3m
Shipping (assuming you wer charged $1,300 by N1,600 ) = N2,080,000
Cost of shipping + clearing is already N5,080,000 now add cost of buying the car abroad + cost of moving it to the port were the car will be shipped.
So when the car enter Naija how much you wan sell am?
Answer the question by yourself.

Nigerians is it not time we think outside the box?
Why not patronize made in Nigeria vehicles?
Why not buy brand new car than scrap scavenged 25 years car.
Why not petronize @innosonvehicles than allowing other neighboring african countries enjoy them.?

So Lets face the reality and carry our cross.

When you car AC is malfunction, either leakage or poor cooling like only cold when on motion and hot when stationary so many things are involved.

1. No more gas inside the system.
Your gas must have escaped due to leakage.
To confirm this check all the AC vents only the one at passenger side will likely be cooing, this is because that's where cooling starts and circulates to other vents.

2. Either the compressor is weak with low gas pumping power so only pumps well when the car is in motion and engine RPM high, or the condenser is blocked so gas finds it difficult to flow through the tiny cells.
To confirm this when the car is stationary fire the engine small it will cool.

1. First bear in mind AC and refrigeration system is a closed system, thus the gas is under compressed pressure so once it gets any weak point along the line it bust it open and escape.

2. If u enter anybody workshop and he tells you its just to top gas, na them, just leave his shop and find another person.

3. Dont be in a haste to fix ur AC when it goes bad until u have some money at hand to ensure you dont do manage manage work else you spend the money twice.

4. Most times AC problems is normally low compression from compressor or leakage from compressor, condenser or pipes, everporator doesnt spoil easily.

5. Once any of either compressor or condenser is bad i advice replace the two. Do this so that both will have equal strength and power else if one is weaker the newer and stronger one will burst the other open and gas wil leak again.

6. Always switch off ur AC when entering flood if location of your compressor is below but if its up no problem, this is because once water enters the coil of the compresor while active and working it spoils it.

7. Each time your to work on your AC please sacrifice some money for them to buy gas to flush the whole system. Dont be to stingy. This is because fragments from compressor piston when mix with oil always block the tiny cells of the condenser and when this happens compressor will be finding it hard to pump gas round, engine will be jerking once you put on AC and car will start consuming too much fuel.

8. If you converted your compressor from Automatic to Manual make sure they add ORIGINAL thermostat else the compressor will keep spoiling.

9. Always buy original compressor oil while working on your AC. That compressor have so many piston inside pumping the gas so they need proper lubrication else they start grinding the walls of the compresor.

Ethiopian Government under their Ethiopian Green Mobility Push as announced by their Minister of Transport and Logistics Alemu Sime announced they are putting sanction on importation of petrol and diesel private vehicles. They want to replace them with Electric Vehicles.
They took this decision in order to reduce over dependence on fuel which is putting so much pressure on their foreign exchange which cost them about $6 billion anually on importation of fuel.

The Government over the years introduced some tax friendly incentives to encourage car manufacturers open manufacturing plants in their country and currently companies like Kia, Lifan, Cherry, Jack are already there producing cars locally.
Their Government is also encouraging importation of Electric Vehicles by exempting them from VAT, exercise tax and other levies with some import waiver.

Ethiopia will now be the first country in Africa to place a ban on Petroleum vehicles and combustion engines. Uk, EU and Canada are also planing on baning same fuel vehicles by 2035.

Ethiopia is one of the African countries that have constant power supply.
With their population of about 126.5 million they still generate electricity enough for their country.
To augment the effect of the Electric vehicles on their grid they are currently building another dam called Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) which is currently over 90% completed and some of its turbine are already supplying power. This dam will increase their power generation by extra 5000 MW and they want to use it mainly for electricity export to other countries.

Mind you, Ethiopia is a landlocked country of about 1,112,000 sq kilometers, size of France and Spain joined together.
Their main source of income is Agriculture and their Airlines. This is why once you board any of their Airlines it must do a stop over at Addis Ababa so that the passengers will generate some foreign exchange for them.

Their major airline is Ethiopian Group founded in 1945 and still waxing strong till date.
Their ranking use to be the 26th in the world before corona that push them down to 35th position. Ethiopian Airline is currently operating with about 148 world class aircrafts.
They have other Airlines which they are co owners.
Some of them are :
Asky Airline ( 40% )
Tchadia Airlines ( 49% )
Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines.
They are suppose to be managing Nigerian Airline now but corruption and evil didn't allow that happen.

Hope you still remember that Ethiopia and Liberia are one of the few African countries that was not colonized by any western country yet they are doing well and you can't say any western country taught them better ways of life and how to manage their country and Economy.

As your reading this, i know what your thinking but calm down, to go there now is not easy again, a place we use to go freely without visa just few months ago.

@Sidophat1 @instablog9ja A blown head gasket so the coolant now mixed with oil and carbon inside the combustion chamber thats why the water is black. The coolant filled the cylinders and now escaping through the valves into the exhust. Its a minor work, 6 hrs fix.

@instablog9ja Its case of blown head gasket so the coolant in the engine have mixed with oil and carbon inside the combustion chamber thats why the water is now black in colour.
Due to the bad gasket coolant now force their way into the cylinders, filled them and escaping into the exhust.
