And saying a few Dalits were also present proves precisely nothing. Participation by members of a community does not magically determine whether an act carries caste prejudice.

The only questions that need to be asked is what exactly was considered ‘impure’? Why did the ground require purification after a political gathering and importantly would the same ritual have followed a rally addressed by an upper caste leader like yourself?

She is living in India since late 60s but even now people don’t have authentic information about her early life, her family and her personal journey.
She has emphasised that she wants to live and die in India as she belongs to India.
It seems @PenguinIndia has come under serious pressure.
The government has not taken any stand officially but it should not think of resisting its publication because in an open society of Social Media nothing remains unpublished.
Many of us are keen to read about the foreign-born woman who lead the oldest party of India for the longest period.
Nothing better if she herself is sharing the story of her extraordinary life.

Here's @newslaundry report: Five men in five Uttarakhand assembly constituencies filed 6,500 objections to strike voters off the rolls in the ongoing special intensive revision. Every name they targeted is Muslim. Each of the five is linked to the BJP.

In the Kichha assembly constituency of Udham Singh Nagar district, 99% of the deletion requests (4,857 objections were filed, 4,855 of them from just one man: Rajesh Tiwari, whom a report in the Hindustan identifies as a BJP booth level agent.) Every name he targeted was Muslim.

This is all very confusing. Penguin India is owned by the same conglomerate that owns Knopf, the book’s international publisher.
Knopf is happy publishing the book without the editorial ‘suggestions’ that Penguin India says are its ‘prerogative’.
The problems seem limited to the Indian edition. And to Penguin India
I cannot think of another explanation for Penguin’s behaviour apart from the obvious one. Especially as Penguin India has form
in these matters.
Am I wrong? Possibly. But this evasive,mealy-mouthed statement does not offer an alternative explanation
