I do think it’s highly dubious that councils in Scotland can annually increase its council tax, with no fixed cap maximum or linked to inflation and without any type of vote. So it can go up by X% every year and people just have to suck it up. Awful! @scotgov
The CBA firmly opposes the Government’s proposal to erode the public’s fundamental right to trial by jury.
The erosion of the right to jury trial will break the increasingly thin connection between the State and ordinary people, and risks undermining social cohesion and trust in the criminal justice system. Once that trust disappears, fears of tyrannical governments increase and the faith in justice evaporates for good.

Riel Karmy-Jones KC CBA is here:

The right to a jury trial in the most fundamental criminal cases is a guarantee of equal justice for every one of us. If a government cuts that right instead of funding the system, it isn’t reform it’s endangering the freedom of us all.
Not scrapping the Energy Profits Levy @RachelReevesMP has signed a death warrant for the demise of Aberdeen & North East of Scotland. Labour used to be a party of working people, but has turned its back on thousands of skilled workers who will lose their jobs due to this policy.
@tomhfh@mikeysmith Tom trying to use smoke and mirrors to say that Labour was responsible, just because it came into force this year, when it was in fact a Tory policy. You can’t make this sh*t up.
THE ECHR PROTECTS US ALL
The rights within it – firmly implanted into UK law by the Human Rights Act – are the reason why families devastated by disasters like Hillsborough could demand justice, why victims of abuse can seek safety, and why disabled people are treated with dignity in care. It grants our right to protest, our right to privacy, our right to fair trials and so much more.
We must protect it, not leave it
The European Court of Human Rights is an international court, not a foreign one - and the UK is both a party to and helped establish it. Perhaps UK news shows could start pointing that out
‘It’s a speech that Nigel Farage, Suella Braverman, or Robert Jenrick could have given.’
@IainDale labels Keir Starmer ‘a disgrace’ for describing the UK as 'an island of strangers.’
@Keir_Starmer With the greatest of respect, you have lost the plot!
Mirroring Reforms policies and rhetoric is bonkers and will lose you ALOT of votes in the future.
Also trying to limit Art 8 of the ECHR and access to justice is an awful slippery slope!!!!
(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
Tomorrow marks 80 years since the liberation of the Nazi concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
We will never forget the 6 million Jews murdered in cold blood and all the victims of the Holocaust.
As the last survivors fade, it is our duty as Europeans to remember the unspeakable crimes and to honour the memories of the victims.
Labour: Let’s use Inheritance Tax to farmers to distract from all the vulnerable pensioners that are going to struggle or die due to the Winter Fuel Allowance being taken away with short notice. Abhorrent #LabourLiars
