As the release of the third edition of Generations of Grace approaches, here's a sneak peek into what the new teacher's commentary lessons will include! This is a small excerpt from Generations of Grace, Third Edition, Year 2, Lesson 2.
David, like all men, was a sinner in need of a Savior and forgiveness. Out of the tragedy of David’s sin, he wrote his penitential psalms to express his regret. In Psalm 6, out of a deep sense of affliction over his sin, David pleads for grace: “Be gracious to me, O LORD” (v2). Psalm 51 was written as a penitent response to David’s sin with Bathsheba. He acknowledged the depth of his sin, calling it what it is: transgression, iniquity, sin, and evil. Having confessed his sin humbly and freely, he asked for cleansing (v10). In Psalm 32, David expressed the joy and blessing of “the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man against whom the LORD counts no iniquity” (vv1–2).

"David lived a life filled with many vocations: shepherd, musician, warrior, and king. He had many life experiences: he lived a nomadic shepherd’s life, he fought in Israel’s wars, he was a conscientious servant of King Saul (even after Saul tried to kill him), he was a faithful friend of Jonathan, he was a fugitive (before and after he was king), as a king he was compassionate and fair even to his enemies, he was a husband and a father, and he was a man of God who loved the LORD—a man after God’s own heart (1 Sam 13:14; Acts 13:22). And yet, David was a sinner who needed God’s forgiveness." —Generations of Grace, Third Edition, Year 2, Lesson 2

Sample from the upcoming Third Edition of Generations of Grace, Year 1, Lesson 34:
Joshua did “just as the LORD had commanded” (v15) and “took all that land”—the land of promise (vv16–17). He defeated all the wicked Canaanite cities and their kings (vv18–19; see 12:1–24). There were still a few places where the Canaanites were not yet totally defeated (13:1–7; see 15:63), but the land as a whole was conquered and controlled by Israel. The land of promise now belonged to the nation “according to all that the LORD has spoken to Moses” (see Exod 23:31; Num 34:1–12). It was now time to prescribe allotments of the land for each tribe (Josh 13:8–19:51).
